Training in lead up to event?

I’m not following a specific TR plan. Instead I normally do block training - sweet spot then vo2 then threshold, repeat.

I’ve been training for a 160km/100 mile ride with 2000m/6500 feet of climbing. The event is 10 days away from today.

The training overall has gone well - my FTP has gone up and so has my TTE.

I have been pushing my volume up with longer rides and sweet spot progression. Most recently I did a 5 hour ride on the weekend followed by a 3x25 sweet spot session on the Tuesday.

My original idea was to do a few more sweet spot sessions this week then take it easy next week, but I can feel that I’m at the edge of what my body can take and I don’t want to fall sick.

Also, given how close the event is, I don’t think a lot more volume is going to help much? I had 3x30 sweet spot planned next but I don’t think I’m going to do it.

I would like to keep everything ticking over though and go into the event refreshed.

Does anyone have any experience with this? 10 days out what’s a good idea? Take a break now then do a bit of easy training? Something else?

For me and a big, important event - taper starts 2 weeks out. I maintain intensity but cut volume 40-50% (Both overall, and in the specific interval workouts I’m doing. 3 intervals down to 1 or 2, 20 minutes to 10, etc. etc. - but I will keep a little bit of the different zones I’ve been training)

2 or 3 days before the race, it’s mostly easy recovery stuff for me with some spin-ups to keep the legs moving.

For a B event I might not taper quite as much, a C Event is like a normal workout.
