Trainerroad workout as a subset of Rouvy: easier way?

Hello, been using TR for a while and lately adding Rouvy. Today I did a TR + Rouvy workout. After I finished with TR, I continued with Rouvy.

What I want is the Rouvy ride to be sync to TR calendar and associate it with the TR workout. What I did was, I exported the fit file from Rouvy and upload it to TR web. I have to delete the original TR file because it is complaining a duplication.

Is there a better/easier way to do this?

Welcome to the TR community!

Since TR and Rouvy aren’t officially integrated, there isn’t a super smooth way to get this to work… Another idea, though, might be to do your TR workout as an Outside Workout so you could follow along on a Garmin, Wahoo, Hammerhead, or Apple Watch while recording your ride on Rouvy. If you’re confident that the Rouvy ride has all of your data, you could discard (or choose not to upload) the ride from the bike computer/Apple Watch, which should leave you with just one file uploading to TR in the end. That one file should also automatically match up with the “Outside Workout” that would have been scheduled on your TR Calendar.

You can extend the cooldown on the TR workout and TR will keep recording what you do. I do that sometimes.

Sorry I’m a bit slow today. So I mark a TR workout as an outside workout so it is available in my head unit. I then use my head unit to control my trainer and use my power meter to broadcast the power to the Rouvy. Then I deleted the file from the head unit.

Isn’t it similar as what I did today?

Can it be extended indefinitely? Or you have to press +5 min on and on and on?

Yes, it would be similar to what you did today, just using a head unit instead of the app.

@jgthomas59’s suggestion is a good one! Here is more info if you need it, @sloika:

I think there are longer options than 5 min, but yes I believe you have to keep an eye on it and keep extending. But you can extend a bunch then stop whenever you want.

I see. This sounds like the reasonable solution. Do you need to disconnect the trainer from TR before adding it as controllable in Rouvy?

If I’m not finished a route or such I’ll extend the cooldown then adjust TR’s intensity to get myself to whatever watts I want. So I’m staying in ERG.

TR will let you drop out of ERG, but I don’t know if it will fully hand over the resistance to a different program. I’ve never tried. @ZackeryWeimer is it possible to let Rouvy take over the resistance (and gradient) while TR still records?

I’m not sure if it’s possible – it could become complicated if the trainer is recording power as well as controlling resistance. If that’s the case, breaking off the trainer from TR could cause power to stop recording on TR, too.

It may be worth trying out, though, to see if it works! Keeping the trainer in ERG mode on TR sounds like a good backup option if it doesn’t so you can finish the route you have loaded up.

I will try this setup later in the evening and get back to you:

  1. ERG via TR, power and cadence via power meter to Rouvy
  2. Then I’ll change the TR to resistance based, and try to add the trainer as controllable to Rouvy

I’m a long time ROUVY user and newbie to TrainerRoad. Here is one way that I’m using ROUVY alongside TR. A friend of mine has written an application that allows searching ROUVY routes based on many filters. For instance, tomorrows TR prescribed workout for me is Antelope +2 (01:30:00 Duration, 103 TSS, 0.83 IF). I go to https://gemcityicc.com/search, enter my FTP, weight, IF, and workout duration. The app then returns route results based on the options. To avoid entering the cooldown section of the workout too soon, I set the route duration to 5-10 minutes shorter than the workout.
Yes, an option in TR to extend the active/work section before entering the cooldown would be a nice feature.
Hope this helps!

Are you doing intervals then on the ROUVY route

Yes. Whatever workout TrainerRoad recommends, I use the GemCity Search to find routes that match the workouts duration and IF. The ROUVY controllable is turned off, and the TrainerRoad app controls the power—mostly always in ERG mode.
