Bit late to the party…
First try at outdoor workouts yesterday. I like it. Might need to tweak some of data screen settings. Using an older Edge 510 unit and quite pleased with the functionality.

It was hard to tell exactly what the target power was for the given interval. The initial instruction screen at the start of each interval had a power range from x to y watts, which I was not quite used to. Because usually on Trainer Road you are given an exact power target which you can aim for during the interval. I was getting messages “power too low” or “power too high” etc, but still didn’t know what the exact target was. I suppose this is a limitation from Garmin.

Analysing the ride afterwards in TrainerRoad I was a bit disappointed because I also can’t see what the target was for each interval after the fact. On indoor workouts you always get a power comparison between average / target . This way you can see if you were hitting the target or not. This was missing on my outdoor workout in the analytics.

Other than that an overall good experience and adds more value to an already great product.

Cheers and HNY 2020

Did the outside version of Juneau -1 today

@Tommy - Could a “wait until lap button press” be put in at the end of the 7min rests between sets? If executing the 2x9 on a long hill, you don’t want the next set to start until you get back to the bottom

At the moment, it just has a Rest 0:00 after at least the first one

Thanks

Hi there! New to the platform and wanted to see if there integration to send run workouts to a Garmin watch? Is this on the horizon as an update for the triathletes using the platform? I’ve been googling but haven’t seen anything around this topic.

Thanks!

Hey @PWeber, thanks for posting this! I took a look at the outside workout file for Juneau -1, and it actually does have “hit lap once ready” prompts after the 9 minute rests already! If you weren’t getting them on your ride, it was most likely just due to a bad sync that altered the workout file.

This happens from time to time, and re-syncing the workout usually fixes the issue. If you continue to notice missing lap prompts though, please let me know and we can investigate further!

Thanks Tommy. I’ll try again today and see what is says in the Garmin. It was after the 7 min rest following the second 9 min interval, and it had a lap of 0 min, rather the reset.

I’ll check before rides hereon

I am pretty sure you can send workouts to the F6 series and more than likely 735xt/935/945. I have never tried on my F6X Sapphire but they all support workouts.

Yes you can, I do this for outdoor and indoor workouts. I am using Fenix 6xpro but I have also used this with 5x and 5x+

I just deleted it from the Garmin and Garmin Connect, and re pushed it. Step 7 of 22 is still Rest 0.00 rather than until lap key.

As per Bryce’s latest post, i’ll open a support case

@PWeber I’m so sorry, I was looking at the wrong rest step  it looks like that step did have a duration of 0 seconds, when it should’ve been an open lap. I went ahead and corrected that, so it should work this time if you do want to try again!

Thanks again, and my apologies for overlooking that!

Hey Tommy, can the 735XT watch support outdoor workouts?

If so, do you know if anyone has looked into using the extended display profile to an Edge 130?

Hey @jdmccoskey!

We do support the 735XT for Outside Workouts - you should be able to sync your workouts through Garmin Connect on your phone, so long as your watch is paired to your phone via Bluetooth. You can also connect your watch to Garmin Express on your computer via USB, but I’d definitely recommend using Garmin Connect if ya can :+1:

The step to disable workout alerts option doesn’t seem to fit Edge 1000. I don’t have that option at all. Is there any way to do that? It drives me crazy to keep getting the constant “Power too low” alert due to the Avg. Power being too low on any given interval, e.g. due to traffic lights or so.

Which brings me to the next point: why are the intervals running directly one after another and not through the lap button to avoid this issue? And why is the Garmin default (?) screen which shows the target range using avg. power and not normalised?

Just after a bit of reassurance on what I doing after I tried an outdoor workout for the first time today. Took an easy one so it didn’t matter if I screwed up what I was doing with the head unit. On Garmin 520 FYI.

Happy with the process that you hit lap after the warm up to advance to the main sets. In this case, it was an endurance ride so only 3 ‘steps’ (warm up, 100mins main set, cool down). I did the lap button once I was ready, which was after approx 12 mins, so there’s a second lap on the ride analysis screen. That’s odd but never mind. Lap 3 is the main set. Then I hit lap after that to go to the cool down, but I suspect that I didn’t need to do that. That is why it’s only 2 seconds for lap 4, but then the time between the end of the main set and the end of my ride was 10-15mins. So the actual cool down. I would suspect this would be lap 5 but that seems very strange and has no data.

Thinking what I would do if I was to do longer ss/threshold intervals, do you need to press lap at the end of the interval before the recovery? Or just to progress to the next interval after the recovery? Potentially, that’s what I am doing next weekend.

Thanks

When you load the workout you can see the breaks in the workout on the summary of your Garmin, those breaks are where you’ll have to hit the lap button, it’s going to be at the start of a work interval. I would add the “workout comparison” screen to your Garmin, that way you’ll see the same graph zoomed in while doing your intervals and it’s very easy to see when Garmin will auto lap or there is a gap and you’ll have to press lap to enter the next work interval

Hi, what is the process of getting the workouts onto the 800? I’ve got as far as pushing the TR workout to my Connect calender

From memory, put the workout in calendar as an outside, TR will schedule to push it to Garmin Connect 48 hours in advance. Plug your 800 into your PC and it should get pushed into Workouts on the ‘home’ page and you’re good to go! I think!

Ah, as easy as that? I have a feeling I tried something similar but nothing happened when I plugged in my garmin, I’ll try again tomorrow!

Edit: I realised I didn’t have Garmin express installed on my laptop so Connect couldn’t see my 800. Sorted now.

Anybody who had issues with workout not pushing to garmin ? I tried everything ( re authorize garmin etc and couldn’t get it on my garmin edge 830 . Could it be because I have a new phone ? My phone is connected to garmin head unit though :face_with_monocle:

Or should I wait a few hours ? Till I goes from TrainerRoad to garmin ?

It should push to Garmin immediately. But yes, if you have a new phone you’ll need to repair it with your Garmin.

You can also pair your Garmin to Wi-Fi. I think that will pull the workout down but I’m not sure.
