TrainerRoad - Feature Requests of what athletes expect / want in the future

Surely 3x 10mins at 85% with 3min z1 recovery would impact endurance. Despite not hitting that zone at all. I’m thinking slide mountain. Only Tempo and SS impacted.? Minor quibble. Not really a significant desire. Others I suggested would be good imho

Impact yes, but it doesn’t mean that you bumped up the level in the TR system.

Basically the feature exists, you’re talking about a fundamental change in how the system works.

The system works for some cases, but in others it does not work. For example, look at
Owls Head

This workout has three Over Under parts in it, but it only gives 1.3 for Threshold.

Is it not matching how they would also rate a 1.3 threshold not part of a vo2 max? On 9x :45 per is call it 7 minutes

Chimneys has similar time in zone for a 1.3 threshold too

Seems like Owls head matches what they would call a 1.3 threshold.

Instructions during workout FONT SIZE - configurable (larger).

I normally wear glasses for closer distance. But not in training/workout/outdoors.

For my indoor Training I still like to follow somewhat the variations, notations, instructions during workouts. But the Font size is really too small for me to be read. Running this on a 11” iPad maybe 1 meter away - Font size should should be like 3 times larger for me.

Would be beneficial to make this (Font size) configurable. As it’s a temporary overlay it also wouldn’t matter to take the entire screen.

There’s really only 1 feature I want: the ability to natively pull completed workouts from TrainingPeaks into TR

I’m down to just using AI FTP detection in TR, as I’ve migrated to using TP Virtual for indoor rides with planning via TrainingPeaks. I don’t use Plan Builder - the TR plans / progressions have never agreed with me (too much emphasis on intensity for my knees, with not enough warmup) - and with TR killing development of Custom Workout Builder + not advancing the workout player (I’m really liking how in TP Virtual you can set ranges for workout sections, and ERG mode keeps you in the range. This seems to be much better for me / my knees than the feeling of trying to hold to a single wattage number), I’ve stopped doing my workouts in TR.

I’m very probably a corner case for TR these days, but overall I feel like TR releases features (e.g., Apple Health / Fitness integration) and doesn’t reserve development time to continue to improve / refine these features.

A big, yet not revolutionary, feature I’m pretty sure most people want, and have suggested would be parity between the various platforms. Adjusting plans shouldn’t be limited to the web, my android app shuldn’t show different information to the desktop (win) app or the web.

Below is the calendar across 3 places and 2/3rd shows I shoud be resting. Al three waited for the app to sync.

I’d like to see a differentiation between the traditional gran fondo where the entire route is timed and the “timed segment” gran fondo for race type. If I’m doing a timed segment fondo, I’m going all out on the segments essentially as VO2 Max efforts and simply cruising the rest of the route. In a 100-mile route, less than 20 miles is timed.

Asked before can we have training plans synced to ROUVY

I did two TR workouts a week for six weeks and saw a ~15% increase in FTP across the board in my A event

I know it isn’t accurate, as although Quarq power meters are meant to be self-calibrating, this ride was an anomaly. A TR feature to ‘exclude power’ from this one ride would allow me to fix this myself.

There is the option the exclude a ride. You have to click on the ride and select edit (at least in the Web App).

Not useless when you increase the power above or below the planned target.

Ah, you mean manually changing the 100% target to something else during the workout? I haven’t tried that and its effect on the power vs target bar. Will give it a go…

Thanks, Polka guy. I used Fit File Tools to adjust power down by 20% and have re-uploaded to Strava which is trickling into other services.

TR seems to have cached all the stats / non recalculated them yet, and still shows an IF of 1.06 for 5hrs.

Intervals.icu on the other hand recalculates these things instantly and shows an adjusted IF of 0.86 for the ride with power adjusted down 20%.

It would be great if TR was able to recognise that an update had occurred, and recalculate TSS etc to provide confidence that AIFTP / PL’s etc are accurately informed.

Okay, that makes sense. On that note, it would be nice to see that as an explanation in the race types selection.

Will there metics like critical power, workout prime and workout reserve introduced to start analysing workouts and training progress?

TR does sometimes behave strangely in that regard. I think it’s seeing your re-upload to Strava as a simultaneous/duplicate/overlapping activity of the same type & is therefore refusing to pull the new one into the calendar. In cases like these where it didn’t sync the deletion from Strava, I had to delete it off TR also. After several minutes & a few calendar refreshes to let TR do what it needs to do, then re-upload to Strava, it’s always come across to my TR calendar.

How would you use these? They all have their use cases (and issues) but I don’t really see a use case for them within tr as it’s largely supposed to be the one dictating the program.

Critical power is calculated using maximal efforts of different durations, typically between 3 and 20 min. It’s seen a more modern interpretation of all round capabilities and the measure for planning workouts. From listening to several podcasts many coaches reckon FTP is old school and one dimensional.

Workout reserve is a metric that quantifies how much “capacity” remains in your tank during a workout, relative to your historical best efforts for similar durations. WR acts as a real-time benchmark for effort. A rapidly depleting WR signals that you’re pushing hard and may need to conserve for future sessions to avoid overtraining and support continuous progress.

When I was using athletica.ai they measured and tracked WR and you could have the measure live on your garmin.
