Have you tried switching to a ‘balanced’ training approach? Better recovery often gives a higher prediction. Another option would be to decrease the volume a bit, and see whether ‘less’ gets your more?
See post from Ming a few above. The adjustment is off, the warning is now just there.
Things become more complicated when a person gets AI FTP predicted of 270w and thinks/tries to do all-out 1h ride at that power not taking into account that AI FTP != Real 60 Minute max effort power ![]()
TR platform has some learning curve, but once you watch podcasts/read forum/ complete workouts - you start to understand how it works ![]()
I’ve been in the beta from the beginning - my FTP dropped more than 5% compared to the old system. I was concerned to begin with but the workouts I am being prescribed do not feel in any way too easy. The AI prediction of mostly ‘hard’ and occasionally ‘very hard’ have been on the money. That’s all that matters really.
I think the rise of LLM are to blame. It creates huge scepticism when something is labelled as AI. What I love is that you guys have stuck to your convictions, avoided using LLM (from what I can tell), and have build a proper machine learning back end. It’s refreshing to see!
Somewhat older rider (54) on a ‘masters’ program here. AI FTP-adaptation was an increase of 2 watts and prediction a decrease of 1 watt.
I’ll take that as a win, in view of rule n° 4. “You’re close to your genetic potential for your age.”
Many thanks for that explanation, which helped a lot for me. And I’ll take it as a boost of confidence to try to hold on to my 3,91 w/kg and perhaps even reach the illusive 4 w/kg one day.
For now : “up and at them” and kudos to the TR-team!
Ok so its just part of the calendar interface now without the possibility to hide it, even though its not being used? @ming
Again, not knocking it. Just trying to see if i can use the calendar without.
I know you are asking to not see the red and yellow, but I think the answer is above.
How does AI FTP work with recovery intervals when picking workouts? I can handle high levels of time in zone, and even longer intervals, but I require long recovery between intervals. I’m 40.
Will the AI recognise my need for more recovery interval time? Or is short recovery time just something I should suffer through until I get better at it?
If you are being forced into shorter recoveries and that is decaying the quality of the work, you will get a message on screen suggesting a longer workout to open up the library. You then have the choice to pick which you prefer.
I plan on trusting the system and rolling with it, but I’m a little bit confused about ftp reduction. I was at ftp 220 on the old TR. Now it dropped me down to 215, which is fine, but it has me predicted at 206 in 27days.
I am in the specialty phase of a “getting faster on group rides” masters plan with a balanced approach . I nail every workout, with RPE never higher than a 4. I never have to take a break, backpedal or coast, my heart rate drops back down quickly after hard intervals, and I never miss or substitute a workout. Why such a big drop?
I think FTP drops in the specialty phase are to be expected. Usually it’s building you up for your event and you are trying to shed fatigue so you can perform. Your case may be a little different since it’s more of a general plan.
I’d reccomend posting your calendar anytime you have a question like this as users can help you. Could be the wrong plan focus(balanced, conservative, aggressive, etc) or something else.
If you are doing a group ride that may not quite be factoring in as there was a bug with that at the end of the beta.
That was the case before when it matched the ramp test. The ramp test ftp != 60 minute max power. Nate has mentioned that they will be giving estimated 20 min and 60 min power in the future. They have the ability to run it now.
Is this going to take away the surprise of a newly detected FTP that we get every 28 days? Or could there be a bit of under reporting so we can have a surprise each month and ultimately keep us coming back for more?
My understanding is that it takes away the surprise. There is a wider margin of error 28 days out and then it gets “tighter” or “more accurate” as you get closer to the date. So by the time you are a day or two away, that’s pretty much going to be the new AIFTP training metric.
Are you on balanced, demanding or aggressive? And are you adding in extra rides. Early beta user here, and most people who saw a decline in projected AIFTP were on demanding or aggressive or added a bunch of extra work. The model is predicting you will be over trained. Posting your calendar and setting helps others help you.
Also, in speciality phase you typically don’t get a boost in FTP. It is more about refining your fitness for your goal.
Can I turn this off? I notice, when I change a workout, it changes upcoming workouts that I have already customized for myself.
Thanks.

I’m on a balanced plan, no additional workouts, races or group rides. Strictly sticking to the plan.
I feel like what I was being fed was very accurate. There were times I’d start a workout and think “there’s no way I can finish” and then I could, to my surprise.
Like I said I still plan on trusting the system, I am just curious if these changes sounded correct.
I’ve only been on TR about a year. I’ve committed to trusting the TR system a period of time so I could see what results I get.
With the new changes, I’m trying to decipher the what these new numbers mean
Thank you.
