TR+Zwift: It Works!

Not that I can see. I used Strava segments to keep count!

I hope you’ve selected the climbing challenge, otherwise all your climbing is for nothing. and you’ll be starting from zero again. I made this mistake!!!

Yep! Got all 3. They should create some more.

I’ve found two ANT dongles to work for me. Windows 10. And I always open TR first. It remembers my 3 sensors (Polar HR strap, KICKR SmartTrainer, and Garmin Rally PM pedal). Then I open Zwift. Sometimes in Zwift I have to search or even unpair, re-pair once. But I quickly get Zwift paired. And then all is good.

Two ant+ sensors on my windows device, I do nothing special, open both Zwift and TR at same time. One must grab one sensor quicker than other and they always seem to remember what they’ve been paired with.

If you are having trouble, just have the one ant+ sensor connected to your windows machine, open one app, say TR and pair. Then connect other ant+ sensor, open Zwift, search and pair. You could always try connecting them individually and running each app individually to ensure both work with respective apps. That’s where I would start trouble shooting. Good luck.

I am using ANT+ for TR - BT for zwift. But lately, I have had an issue on zwift when I run TR along with it.
I get frame stutter on zwift every 5secs for a milisecond. Looks like a frame drop of some sorts. And it only happens when TR is open with zwift.

PC Specs are good: Ryzen 3600 - RTX 3060 TI - 16GB 3200mhz ram

I run TR on my andriod phone(bluetooth) and Zwift on my laptop(ANT). It works very well.

Oh and Spotify too !

Most newer Bluetooth devices allow multiple connections. The one exception was my heart rate strap (Tickr). So I was able to pair my Vector power pedals to both devices, then paired my HRM and kickr to TR. if I was doing a Zwift race where I wanted HR on Zwift, I just paired everything to the iPad.

When running TR concurrently with Zwift, you want to ensure the controllable device (trainer) is not selected or paired on Zwift, otherwise TR and Zwift will “compete”.

It’s not Zwift but RGT I use but it’s the same principles. I have an older ant+ only PM and I have a PC ant + dongle and a phone/tablet ant+ dongle. I usually have RGT reading my watts through the laptop and TR reading them through the phone/tablet. Both have BT and depending on how I am feeling I’ll let TR or RGT control the smart turbo. Occasionally though if I can’t be bothered to set everything up, I just load up the TR workout as outdoors one and ride it on a RGT course.

Tell me more about that mini keyboard. How’s you get one small enough to fit on your handlebars and how’s you program it?

how do people do ‘Ant’ on their laptop? Do you have to buy something? I don’t get this part

You need to add one of these USB ANT+ dongles, and it can help to add a USB extension cord for some uses.

Thanks! So I should be able to run TR on my iPad via bluetooth and then Zwift on my laptop via ANT… I read somewhere that I should load TR first and then Zwift… There’s so much info on some of these threads that it can sometimes be hard to find the core info they were created for. Thanks!

Yup. These articles are really helpful for laying out the options.

It’s actually an off-the-shelf product, see some optons below.

I got mine online, and programming was dead simple: just install a program that maps any key you want to that keyboard on a PC, then assign your keys. Took me all of 2 minutes :slightly_smiling_face:

Personally I mapped

  • T - for switching to resistance mode for sprints and high power intervals
  • Space - to pause, restart the workout
  • Arrow down - to reduce intensity after extended cooldowns used for endurance volume (250% to 100% takes a loooooong time)
  • Previous song - because sometimes I prefer a certain song for hard imtervals

Thanks for info. I’m running TR through an iPad. Would the keyboard still allow me to control various features through the iPad?

This is my setup - I run both Zwift and TR through the laptop. I plug in two ANT sticks via long cables. The TV is set up as an extended desktop.
I start Zwift, connect powermeter, cadence and heart rate (but not controllable).
Once that has started, I then start TR, select HR, powermeter and controllable trainer and then hit it.

Looks great. I like both on the same screen with TR as a small bar along the bottom and Zwift above it. Once screen to look at. But two screens also works. I tried my TR endurance workout using TR in resistance mode. Liked that. But I think even better is Zwift in Controller mode and TR not paired to the trainer/control. Then I’d feel the Zwift gradients. I need to try that.

I don‘t think that would work, as the keypad works over USB…

Even if it could be connected to an iPad, I am not sure if the shortcut keys also work under iOS (it would not have made a lot of sense for TR programmers to put them in)

The key pads can USB cords connection, but many can connect to devices (like the iPad) via BLE Bluetooth.

But like you question, I am not sure if the key cuts will work based on how TR likely programmed that Apple mobile version that is probably in use on the iPad. It might park, but its a stretch and and would need.to be confirmed by someone at TR or a user with that setup.
