TR workouts coming to the Hammerhead Karoo?

I’m not up on current Garmin devices so could be talking rubbish here but is this Jonathan riding with a Hammerhead? The fonts don’t look like what I remember Garmin to use.

That is a Hammerhead.

Just want to clarify that my personal head unit usage does not represent product development

Nothing to share in terms of updates on pushing workouts to Hammerhead as of now.

Using the Karoo 2 have you experienced elevation and grade issues? Having problems getting an accurate value on new unit. Will probably just exchange it.

Come on man, throw a dog a bone! If anyone’s got some pull in getting TrainerRoad outdoor workouts on Hammerhead Karoo you do. Still hopeful we can get this done. Christmas 2023 is not that far off!

They literally opted to implement the workout sync to a WATCH before they make it possible to a hammerhead unit. I wonder how much the founders/decision makes of each company dislike the other product other to avoid the implementation.
By this point it can’t be incompetence but just sheer hate haha

you do realize it depends on the device company to make API to support developers, right? apple’s api makes it easy to do stuff like workouts, so does garmin. Wahoo’s API is less good and from the last time I checked, Hammerhead had no API to push workouts. I know because I was trying to develop a tool to create custom workouts for multiple platforms.

My guess is that there is also a larger installed user base for Apple Watches than Hammerhead units…

Whether anyone uses the feature with their watch is :man_shrugging:, I suppose.

Sure i get that but it’s not like hammerhead is blocking other workout platforms from accessing their hammerhead dashboard. Trainingpeaks has been working flawlessly since years at this point so it’s truly just a matter of wanting it to happen and getting a team to tackle the project.
API`s make things easy but no api doesn’t mean it’s hard or impossible.

Training peaks has an API. I assume you’re talking about integrations between TP and Hammerhead? That’s via the Training Peaks API. Apple developed a workouts API for their watch, which is what TR integrated with.

Does Hammerhead offer an API for workouts / training plans?

Yes, i am talking about the integration between TP and hammerhead. They were able to figure it out with TP, why can’t trainerroad do the same? Fact is they could question is why they aren’t keen.

To integrate with Training Peaks, all that hammerhead needed to do was to integrate with Training Peaks’ existing API.

To integrate with Training Peaks, All TR needed to do was to integrate with Training Peaks’ existing API.

To integrate with the Apple Watch, all TR needed to do was integrate with Apple’s fitness API.

Hammerhead doesn’t offer an API, so TR doesn’t have any connection to easily integrate with.

I think this is simple math on TR’s side:

  • Apple Watch total sales are north of 100 million
  • Hammerhead total sales are what? 1 million max - total guess

So Apple Watch sales are easily 100 times larger than Hammerhead”s, and this is only growing

It’s even simpler than that. There’s nothing TR can do until there is an api they can integrate with. This feature requires work on the other company’s side which is blocking TR

I totally agree,

But I do think a little of this has to come back to the way TR communicates “the road map”, in this post you could say that they set the expectation that this was being looked at, from march 2021

Edit … removed the sentance

“I wasn’t aware that this was the issue as they seemed keen to work with TP and Xert to get workouts from those source”

As keen to work with was causing distracted conversation, that has nothing to do with my intention in this post

@WombleHunter They didn’t for Xert exactly. Hammerhead publishes to Xert completed rides. For actually doing workouts Xert put their Android EBC application on the Karoo.

Totally, but I was thinking this when I said

But that was a side note in my post wasn’t it, so I’ve deleted it from my post, and my post still has the same meaning, TR has a little to blame in making users think this is possible, was coming

Just they were keen to work with, as they did create a app store, link it to the xert account so that if you had a linked xert accounbt the appstore would be available, and published xert in the app store, they wer obviously keen to work with xert, even if they didn’t go all the way and create a api

FasCat Coaching seemed to get Karoo 2 workout integration in short order. Why is TrainerRoad taking so long? Might be time to check out an Optimize plan so I don’t have to build each TR workout manually. It’s especially a pain when the plan has to adapt.

Doesn’t Fascat push their workouts through Training Peaks, though? If so, that is why they can get to a Karoo, not because they have a direct relationship with HH.
