SUPINATORS UNITE!!!

Nice forefoot strike, though!

I totally change my stride about 5 years ago. I used to drag my heels badly. To the point where my should would go bad faster than they should. Took me about a month of slow running focusing on forefoot strick… Worth the effort!

Yeah, it took me a long time to develop a mid / forefoot strike. I tried all sorts of things…people used to say it was impossible to heel strike in Vibram Five Finger shoes…I have video proof that it is, in fact, possible.

Like you, I had to start to run slow to fix it…well, even slower, I should say. I also worked on placing my feet below my hips in everyday life, everyday situations. I realized at some point that even when I was just standing, my heels were under my hips…so I would consciously, constantly shift my feet back under me for months. Eventually it took…

Man, I’m not playing that picture game…

Anyway, I’m a boring heel-outside to toes-inside wearer like 90% of runners. Well, I like to think the 90% thing is true.

I also wear the outside of the heel and outside of the forefoot out. If I only use the a pair of shoes on the track, the heel barely wears at all. Also, the left forefoot will wear more than right forefoot w/all those left hand turns. Generally, the slower I go, the more heel contact I make. It’s not really even the heel, more like the outside of the sole below the ankle bone. Kinda odd. But if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Uppers always look new, regardless of how many km I have on the shoe. That said, I’ve never understood how some people destroy the uppers.

I typically go 700-800km before I wear through the outsole rubber. But 1000km is kinda nuts. Even if I love a shoe, I’m already wanting new shoes after 500km just because I want something new :joy:

@Joelrivera You find the NB rubber wears quicker than the Adidas Conti rubber? I have a pair of the NB Fuelcell Prisms that I love, but the rubber seems to wear quick. Also, it’s a bit slippery when wet. I love the Conti rubber on all my Adidas.

Just finished the ZA Run Academy yesterday (Workout 8)… I’ve completed two group runs but have not yet completed a race; though I do plan to next week.

I’m in the middle of getting back to cycling (SSBMV2) where I’ve swapped out the Tuesday ride for the ZARA workout and added in an easy 45 min run on Thursdays.

With only running twice a week I have no real goals in mind other than hopefully being considered for the Run Team for Berlin. Though I did run an impromptu Turkey Trot 10k… My watch/stryd under reported my pace having me run faster than planned which resulted in me blowing up just after mile 4… Still managed a decent time of 37:24. Not a PR but definitely not bad for twice a week running and plenty of biking.

Looking forward to ‘racing’ on the tread. Will definitely be interesting to run at effort while trying not to fall/trip.

Good effort.

I did one run race event but treated it as a warm up/pace gauging 5k exercise as I had a month or so off running. I’m planning to do the 10k next week, and maybe repeat the week after.

The 20k TT I did was very intense with people a few seconds behind and ahead the whole time, it got just about everything out of me. I don’t think that’s the experience with running on Zwift yet, but maybe I’m just slow.

I couldn’t’t run a 37:24 if trained and peaked for a 10k. You go knock it out on 2 runs / week.

Just so we are clear…I hate you.

I would have been overcome with joy if I ran 37:24 30 years ago.

The adidas conti outsole are very durable…
Considerably more than mostly everything else I have use… The only shoe with longer outsole durability is the reebok float ride forever …
Mine have 650 miles and not close to reaching the mid sole yet. My guess is that they should last 1k miles

LOL… I should note I’m not completely off the couch. I spent the better part of this year getting ready for Boston. Once I ran vBoston (on 9/13) I gave up on running and switched My focus to cycling.

Seems I haven’t lost much running fitness. And/or the cycling is carrying over nicely.

That is a lot of miles

i got stability shoes (hoka arahi 3) when i went for an analysis in the past. I have been running more and was wondering how you guys go about buying new shoes. Do you go test them out each time or once tested then stick to neutral or stability ?

I just buy whatever I fancy, online. By now I know fairly well what I like and what I need, the only uncertainty is the sizing of different makes and models. I guess I am lucky that I don’t need anything special and can just run in whatever feels good and looks exciting. Usually I do some research (=watch random youtubers) and then buy whatever sounds cool and comes in weird colorways. I’ve got a super weird forefoot strike and usually replace shoes after 300-400k, so I buy many shoes.

Also, Hoka Clifton and Adidas Boston, always.

Went Full Ass today; Never Half Ass
I was hoping for 1:18:59 on the garmin but I’m not disappointed in the slightest. There was no taper going into this.
Chip time of 1:20:01
Garmin Time: 1:19:12
There was a bruuuuutal hill on mile 5 and I mean brutal! Ran the first 4 miles with a guy but then he fell back and held position the whole time. Winner came in at 1:11:XX

Wow…nicely done!

Hi, hope you don’t mind if I’ll jump here with my question

Do you combine TR plans with running? If you do then you use Low Volume versions?
I’ll begin next week TBLV part 3, and there are 4 bike workouts.
I was thinking that I may go like that:
Monday ~ 40 min base run with progression on strides
Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday - 1h bike workouts from plan
Friday - day off
Saturday - 90 min base run with tempo progression (2x5, 3x5, 2x10)
Sunday - 2h30 min bike workout from plan (Hesperus)

Do you think that could help me also build some base in running?
If you combine for example SSB with running then how you do it? Where to look at some guidance?

Thanks!

Absolutely possible, especially on low volume plans. The key is to not stack hard days, unless you’re doing a short high intensity block to bust a plateau. Any time you ramp run volume in addition to increasing bike intensity injury is a concern. I am also starting TB III but doing MV. My schedule will look something like this:

Monday: Recovery run 30-60’ (or totally off)
For example Saturday I did Martin Hill +1, Sunday Conness in the AM and a 5k TT run in the pm. So today I’m skipping the run for full rest since I stacked a lot of TSS and it’s a down week.

Edit: to add after TB III I’ll continue the progression through SSB I & II instead of jumping straight to build. This gives me a base heavy off season and minimizes intensity jumps.

Tuesday: Hard bike (usually the interval workout)
Wednesday: Off if I ran Monday, recovery run if I took Monday off
Thursday: Moderate to Easy bike AM, Hard run PM
Friday: Easy to Moderate bike and run (no particular order)
Saturday: Tempo/Sweet Spot bike progression
Sunday: Endurance ride am, longer run with potential work in the middle for pm

This schedule works pretty well for me but nothing is written in stone so I move things around based on how my body is feeling and skip sessions if I need to.

@Joelrivera the wear on my shoes looks similar to yours, a bit more on the outside though. How often do you replace your shoes? I feel like my shoes are shot after 300km, give or take, because I am using just a small part of the midsole.

What shoes do you use?
In my experience, the shoe is the one driving how long it last in most cases. Before I changed the stride shoes would only last half of what they last now.
The NB 1400v6 you see up there has about 332
The Adidas Takumi Sen has about 162 miles
The reebok forever floatride v1 has 668 miles.

As long as you get a shoe that is mostly eTPU (boost, floatride, and many other like it) your shoe should last a long time!
