Top form for the year? Can one tell?

Forgive me as I am not a TR subscriber so I do not have data to really share. But since this is not about Trainer Road, I dont really see the problem.

Last year, I hit a max fitness of around 320FTP and pretty good durability, being able to hold 240 for around 4ish hours. At that point, I felt at the top of my game. Like I was at my peak fitness for the year. I am curious how accurate that feeling is. I am now around the same fitness. But I do not feel like I am anywhere near my peak. Should I be concerned about overtraining now that I am so close to my previous peak fitness? Or is this simply what happens when training goes well? Does this mean that I could possibly tack on another 20w to last year or something? How good is my “feeling” basically

Feelings? Never heard of it.

How many races did you win? How many have you won so far this year?

I jest.

I know. I have been called AI a concerning amount of times. Soooo.

Lol So far I got 2nd in the only race I have done.

At your age, your peak should be trending higher each year if you are continuing to progress your training. With a progressive structured plan, your peak should be happening based on the timing of the plan. If you still have more build to go and feeling good, you likely have additional fitness coming. And I wouldn’t read too much into the feelings if you are still building for the season. I typically always feel like I’m flying by early April (start of build 2), probably the best I “feel” all year. Starting to race well and feel strong. By the end of April (end of build 2), I’m carrying a good bit of fatigue and it’s the peak of my CTL for the year. But that’s not my performance peak and I don’t feel like I’m flying at that point. My real performance peak happens about a month later as I’ve shed fatigue while continuing to sharpen my fitness. Hit that A race like a caged animal, that should be the performance peak.

And 240w for 4 hours is solid, but there is likely a lot of room for improvement in durability (in addition to FTP) given your age. I’ve got the old man diesel legs and can hold 260+ for 4 hours on a ~10w lower FTP. That durability will come as you get more miles/years in your legs, and your FTP should keep going up as well (win/win).

Here you go.

Ai has never called me ai. But if I had a coin for every time a person did I would have enough for a soda pop.

The fact that it got my bike mostly correct is crazy. A Crux with Roval Terra C . An Aero Wolf tooth chainring. Its maybe a little conserning how much it knows about me but…..
