I don’t mind it. I’m a little behind cause of other podcasts. But yeah TR should do TR.
The feature on breathing lost its way in my opinion. If the research shows the exercises help us go faster, why not park the benefit and show how to do the exercises instead of giving more research examples.
I am fine with the longer format, but I will say the recent one on breathing just got weird.
To use the inception reference, and breath within a breath. I lost the point, purpose, and all of that talking about breathing for the better part of 30+min.
The other deep dives though have been fine, this one just dragged a little too much.
I think you have a good point here about showing how to do the exercises. However, the research is also important. The endurance industry is full of quack “science” and flawed studies. Companies will often claim some magical effect but not provide real science to back up their claims.
I greatly appreciate that TR takes the time to justify their positions by citing and elaborating on the research, and when they are shooting from the hip with anecdotal evidence they clearly say so. That gives TR a lot of credibility in my book. Methodologies and magic elixirs without scientific backing to support them are garbage, and it can often be difficult to determine what the basis for claims are. So good on TR for going the extra step IMO.
Podcast is fine as it is. I tend to only listen to it in the car(which isnt as often these days) or on the bike when doing an easy ride. Never seem to get behind so I am fine with it. Besides I fast forward through the parts that have no impact on me(which tends to be Chads deep dives…as I dont need the detail just the result).
I do enjoy the podcast and I am quite surprised they have been able to keep it going.
It does help adding in others to the mix. Nice to get a different perspective when Amber is on.
I listen to the entire podcast during the weekend workouts and the clips during the week bc I’ll probably catch something I missed. Seeing as how I’ve started to run out of content to consume across 3 different countries having “too much” content that will make me a better cyclist isn’t one of my complaints during these trying times
I think it’s on the long side. The content is good, but why not concentrate on just a few questions a week?
The length argument seems like the difference between sweet spot base vs traditional base. I’d prefer it more like 1 - 1 1/2 hours and keep it relevant.
My 2 cents.
I still do enjoy the content, it’s just harder to wade through at the current length.
Not for me. I like long podcasts.
I appreciate the longer episodes. It allows for the deep dive on certain topics and I can get multiple indoor rides while listening to an episode.
I think they do the longer pods so that I have something to watch on my 2 hr Baxter +2
Considering that I don’t do any racing there are often parts that are too long and not interesting to me, so… I just skip them, leave them for those who enjoy it, and move on, simple as that, podcast can be 8 hours long as far as I’m concerned, no one is forcing me to listen to it in full length.
tbh I feel like podcast is just getting better, often times I listen it whole just because “the atmosphere” of podcast is relaxed, cool and uplifting, even though sometimes I’m not interested in topic.
Without a commute to work there’s a decent backlog built up. Guess I need to listen on recovery rides. Prefer the shorter ones, for what the opinion is worth. Seems can’t have an opinion on this without memes being posted. Unnecessary.
Going back and listening to episode #1 is pretty funny. They’ve made so much progress in terms of quality, flow, pace… it’s quite a contrast.
I don’t mind the length at all. I t doesn’t help me get through the 52 other podcasts I have backed up due to the lack of my normal commute
@Jonathan no need to keep apologising when the quality isn’t the best. Every one should understand the situation. I think we all appreciate you still get the podcast out.
For a once a week podcast I prefer it longer. I listen over a few days during my dog walks. For podcasts that release a few times per week I prefer shorter.
Are any of the podcast ever tabbed so that you can cut to discussions on particular questions without guessing where to go in the podcast?
I listen to most if not all podcasts 2x speed. I listen to somewhere around 30 hours of content a week. If there is something I really don’t understand or am extremely interested in I pause it go back and listen to it again at normal speed.
Allowing for deep dives is what makes the discussion more creditable. There has been lots arguing on Low vs High Carb but without a deep dive into either side you are just screaming from one side or another. I have been working through the library but I enjoy the personalities being able show through with longer format.
Answer: No.
Not to long at all. Especially during this lockdown!
I think it has evolved into a great format.
Allowing time to expand upon ideas in greater depth, answering questions and covering several topics in a single episode.
I usually never watch the entire podcast in one go.
I also like the smaller out-takes on specific topics as refresher knowledge. But I’m a “Cycling Info” junkie, like most of us probably are.
My one regret is that my youth in cycling was in the dark ages. Its no wonder younger cyclists get good so quickly now, with so much outstanding info at their fingertips.
