The Podcast : Is it too long?

so it’s NOT sponsored by specialised and yeti???

I think the podcast is great and I really appreciate the work you put in preparing it and sharing it (including the behind the scenes people putting all the links in).

  1. 90:30 sounds a good mix to me. I’m at work when you go live so I’m not ever going to be able to send in a Live question, but I think it’s good to give that opportunity to people who are following live on YouTube (if that last bit didn’t make technological sense then apologies from an old timer)
  2. Distillation is ok. I enjoy the deep dives but I would appreciate a tight conclusion, so for collagen try it in a drink 30 minutes before you exercise. Something on a soundbite?
  3. Diversity is great. A while back I remember some really tall dude joining the two podcasters, and that worked out great
  4. I think everyone interrupts on Zoom unless they’ve sorted out a Chief Moderator and everyone puts their hands up (but maybe that’s just the teacher in me)

Thanks again

Wish I could like this twice

I don’t think they’re too long, if anything around 60-90 minutes are perfect for commuters. I’ve actual went back and listened to almost every episode. I personally have a 40-60 minute drive in to work every day. So, For me I like them longer.
Can’t wait to hear the science of getting faster.

for a none native english speaker definitely too long (for me it’s hard to understand, british english is easier to understand then the american  ), it would be fine, to read afterwards more of the things explained in the podcasts, if possible!

is the content of TrainerRoad Blog - Cycling Training Resources and Tips
similar to the podcasts?

The Podcasts himself is really a good thing!

I’ve never understood this argument for consuming or not consuming content because there is a lot of it.

I do run into these kinds of conversations from time to time and always leave perplexed wondering why you wouldn’t be excited as long as the content produces value for you. Especially when you have so much flexibility and control in the medium of a podcast.

They do cut it to clips on YouTube. And you don’t HAVE to listen to it or all of it.

Personally almost whatever they want to do with the podcast is fine by me, I fond their clarity on values and objectives are so dialed and consistent that they won’t make an actual misstep and it’s arguably true that the podcast has done as much or more to affect me positively than trainer road itself.

Reviving this old dinosaur as it seems like an avenue for podcast feedback.

Please don’t let my question/comment below upset the herd, but I have to ask because I don’t know if this is a USA thing and/or normal use of the language.

Here goes, is the use of the word “like” required multiple times per sentence, at every pause, hundreds of times per podcast? Listening to episode 301 “Fastest Known Times, Motivation, Consistency”, I’m quite certain the word “like” was so overused it becomes painful. Again, not sure if it’s normal in everyday USA speak, but as someone tuning in from the other side of the world it’s awfully grating.

I think its common either side of the atlantic, I often ask kids a question and then when they’ve done ask them to tell the answer without the word like in it.

MrSimo429: What is the function of the nucleus
Student: Its like what controls like the entire cell and it like contains the genetic material which means like the DNA.

It’s common enough that I barely notice it when people say it too often though I can’t say how common it is outside of the US. It’s just a placeholder for thought, like saying ‘uh’ or ‘umm’. And it’s used unconsciously when someone is trying to talk while forming the thought so it is definitely a difficult habit to break out of once you start doing it.

I’m an old fart and it drives me crazy too.

Don’t get me started on “so” either.

I think Urban dictionary needs an update:

because, like, it is not just teenagers that, umm, like to use the word like.

Longer the better!

I like the long podcast cause it takes nearly the week to listen to while commuting to work. I find the science stuff a bit boring, the race analysis and tactics were more interesting to me. I also like to interject with my own opinions while driving. Sometimes I yell at the radio…

Give me more. I can always pause and resume. Love the work you all put in the podcast!

This seems to have become widely used for no reason. Awesome is another word that is over used (maybe not podcast related)

I find myself using the word “awesome” in place of “good” pretty frequently. I think it is just a generational thing. And “like” doesn’t bother me. What bothers me are the overuse of “amazing” and “epic.” I had an amazing peanut butter sandwich, and the glass of milk made it an epic lunch.

More importantly - I don’t think the podcast is too long. I enjoy it.

Wow, that #3 definition really nails it. I think anyone speaking publicly should listen to themselves if they do it regularly to correct it. It might be similar to uhhh ummm, but it’s no less annoying. If there was a transcript of the last podcast I’d guarantee “like” would appear hundreds of times, it’s unnecessary as it does not contribute to the speaker’s point or position.
