Swimming and TSS

I’ve added swimming to my regular routine recently. Bout 3 times a week, from 30m-1h. And I’ve now joined a local swim team, so will have 2x training sessions a week with the coach and probably a few other individual training sessions.

I noticed that the imported Swim activities have no TSS associated with them. In TP, I have the option of a sTSS (functional by test based) or hrTSS (heart rate based).

Does TR use Swim activities when adjusting load automatically?

I searched the forums, but only found a few threads from 5 years ago, so thought (hoped) the answer might have changed.

Hey @jkyle  Great question!

We don’t currently have a TSS calculator for Swim Activities, but you can add it manually by hitting the pencil icon (edit) on the activity.

Adding TSS isn’t necessary for TR to be able to take the swim activity into account when making adjustment. Adding it won’t increase the accuracy, it’d just be for accounting in the TSS chart.

Thanks! I thought I’d noticed it adjusting when I had a long swim. Great to have confirmed.

Not sure how well this might relate to others but I’ve found that if I do a critical swim speed test to try and calculate TSS that my workout TSS would always basically be my moving time with a bit of rounding error. So if I swam for an hour elapsed time but my moving time was 40 min then my swim TSS would end up being about 38-42. After a few months of trying to do the math after each swim I stopped and now just go by moving time, if I even bother to enter the TSS which I don’t do often anymore.
