Stretching is making you slower

Yeah, one of the main points of the video was that pre-ride static stretching doesn’t have science to support doing it. And nothing on post-workout.

Thought Kelly Starrett put it well on the podcast 222, don’t recall the exact words but it was something like getting back to normal position after being in an unnatural position on the bike. And that’s how I feel, post-workout after a few minutes of light stretching to open up chest and hips/legs/back.

I will keep doing my stretches. Flexibility is more important to me than a mere chance of me being faster. So much stuff gets released and it’s always controversial

I never stretch before. It messes with your connective tissues and your muscle engagement after. Instead, I increase movement for circulation in the legs before a ride by swinging them forward/backward and side-to-side several times. This gets your hips activated too.

If you want to gain flexibility, instead of stretching, STRESS IT. Do Yin Yoga after every hard ride, about an hour after works so that your connective tissues and joints are addressed. I teach Yin Yoga and have been doing this as part of my recovery for several years. Yin creates balance in your body and mind. Just head to your local yoga studio to check it out.
