i’ll start my speciality block in Feb and i’m not sure what kind of specialty block i should choose. Most of my races this year will be XCM but end of March and the week after i’ll race an XCO.
Now i’m not sure if i should focus on XCM within my training plan or select XCO as speciality because of those two races coming up?!
The XCM plan would be better for both XCO/XCM. That being said, look at the workouts in the plan and think about the course and how you expect to race it. If you’ve done the races in the past, look at what zones you were mostly in. Then, look at the Specialty phase and see which plan mimics those required efforts.
I’d recommend choosing based on which style of racing is your top priority. It sounds like you’re mostly doing XCM this season, so I’d probably lean towards choosing XCM – but if your A race happens to be an XCO event, it may be worth considering the XCO Specialty Phase.
I also love @MI-XC’s suggestion to compare the workouts of each phase (you can check them out here) and see which plan better suits your fitness needs. Consider the types of efforts you’ve had to do in past races, and go with the plan that will best prepare you for them.
The next Race is Not an A Race, but the first this season. I was not sure if i loose some Marathon“capabilities“ if i do an 8 week XCO build, which contains more VO2 and Anerobic and less TH and SS.
As this is my second Race season, i do not have much Data from previous races.
Thanks for your advise, i‘ll stick to the XCM plan
