Should I go Base: Low Volume or Mid Volume?

Indeed!

And I didn’t preface my post - I was thinking of your points on the OP being new, and additional endurance rides, etc.

A lot of source now consider ftp test based standard extrapolations to be inappropriate for the majority of the cycling population, particularly for new cyclists, and these cyclists should be doing lower intenisities.

Hence my ‘lowball’.

I think time is more important than distance , more strong you are more distance you can ride in a shorter time. For example if you ride 2 hours and complete 50 km , with more training you can complete 60km in the same 2 hours.
