Eases into it, gets progressively harder, and then once Fred Durst tells me “you know what time it is”, I do indeed know what time it is, and I’ve got 30 - 90 seconds to HTFU or disappoint everyone I’ve ever known.
Sour patch kids or something similar for the cool down spin.
I’m gonna check out some of these suggestions.
Here’s my latest list, it may sound a bit clichéd but it keeps my mind off the suffering until the not so beautiful burnout…I will never make it past 20 mins
If you’ve never heard the first track its a great motivator.
FEARLESS – PINK FLOYD
THE ANALOG KID – RUSH
ROUNDUP – NFL FILMS
WHERE EAGLES DARE – IRON MAIDEN
QUEST FOR FIRE – IRON MAIDEN
THE MARCH FROM 1941 – John Adams
Worked perfect, Quest for Fire took me to my end and then when I saw the +4.5% then the 1941 March came on with glorious triumphalism!
I don’t like minimalism when training! I tried to listen to John Adams’s Chairman Dances (a piece I love) and had to turn it off. I am listening to the link now and like the work, but it would not do for me during a ramp test.
So, I could share my race pace playlist, but it’s not optimized for ramp tests. Just general race mix of about 1 hrs long.
But I just decided to add several Hatebreed songs. I never gave two thoughts to this band until liquid metal on SiriusXM played them today on the devil’s dozen. Their lyrics are like motivational speaker meets personal mantra. It’s nuts! Angry sounds saying “change your situation to change your world”. What? Ok.
I’ll focus on the lyrics next time I’m 350 feet into a 15% grade climb.
I have adjusted my playlist to work with harmonic mixing, so the playlist builds as it goes. This playlist is all house music, if you dont like house you wont like this one lol.
The first track is 5mins long and to be used with the warm up…the playlist has to be played in order for it to work as intended.
Tracks which are in order for Harmonic mixing are

And you can find the playlist here I am trying to beef the playlist up with an extra song, currently it’s 22mins my last ramp test was spot on 22mins haha, but as I get fitter I am hoping to at least last a little bit longer, so need an extra track.
I really like my playlist the lyrics of my chosen songs all kind of tie in (I’m probably stretching a bit). and the timing is perfect. Wonder if any one else agrees
1 Tool, Schism (7:27), “I’ve done the math enough to know the pieces fit”, like the TR guys did the math to fit the ramp test to my FTP to make my training fit.
2. Metallica, For Whom the Bell Tolls (5:10 end time 12:37)… It tolls for my legs obviously, because they are about to die.
This ends right about when the effort starts to get real
3. Tool, 46&2 (6:05, end time 18:42). A song about evolving to more superior being., just like I’m doing. By the end I’m at least approaching matching my current FTP.
4. Pantera, A New Level (4:05, end time 22:47), “A new level of confidence, and power”… I mean, d’uh isn’t that what we after… hard hitting beats at the hardest time. Even a make it the first chorus and you’ve got a nice FTP bump. Never made it to the end of the song, but that would be a huge gain.
Is it music you like to listen to, or music that matches the physical task demand? I like metal, but only so much. it’s not typically my driving music. but it’s great for riding fast and trying to grind my way through a ramp test. The double bass drum pedals and angry vocalist are just what i need to hate pedal through minutes 17-20.
