Ride Camp training program

What training program is best for a 7 day ride camp, total 300 miles and 22,000 ft of climbing?

Hey there and welcome to the TR community!

We’d recommend using Plan Builder to help you out. You can set your camp as an “event” on your TR Calendar (instructions here), and Plan Builder will build out a schedule of workouts for you to follow.

I think you could add your camp as a 1-day event to mark when your camp begins for the sake of simplicity (it can become a little tedious to add 7 events in a row to your Calendar). Entering it as a “Gran Fondo” would make sense to me since you’ll have a lot of mileage and climbing during the camp.

Plan Builder will see the event (and that it’s marked as a “Fondo”) and build a plan out to help you prepare accordingly. Don’t worry about entering the mileage and elevation details (in fact, it won’t even be part of the plan setup flow) – Plan Builder will understand what type of event/riding you’ll be preparing for and create a plan with workouts that will target the energy systems you’ll need to train. In your case, you’ll likely see a plan built around sustained power work to get you ready for the long distances and climbs.

Hope that helps you out – feel free to let us know if you have any additional questions!

When it comes to training camps with your friends just make sure you aren’t the slowest guy OR the second slowest guy so you don’t have to be the caboose or the guy that waits for the caboose. I think any plan that gets you active is going to push you in the right direction, 300 miles in 7 days isn’t so crazy that you need much specificity.

Good advice, thank you
