I was considering quitting TR partially due to the AI FTP bits (I primarily train outdoors) but mostly because I wanted to do a ‘time to exhaustion’ base season over the next couple of months with mostly sweetspot work, going from 2x20 to 1x90 over the next few months, and allowing me decent recovery between intervals in order to do so.
After looking around at alternatives, Intervals.icu seemed the closest thing with the plans on there, or TrainingPeaks with a plan. But I wanted a workout player, too, a bit of seamlessness. Enter the workout creator. I figured - ok, I’ll set up these workouts and see how TR responds to it.
I was very surprised when:
The workouts instantly transferred from the easy-to-use workout builder to the website
The workouts had levels assigned to them that roughly speaking matched up sensically (eg. 2x20 with big rest was around a 5 or 6, then 1x45 was 7.6, that kind of thing.)
Once I placed them into the calendar, they worked seamlessly with yellow/red days
They also functioned nicely with the AI FTP calculator (even with my 3h @ 60%, then 20 min @ 80%, then 6 x 10-20s max sprints at 300% FTP)
All in all I was hugely impressed by this and will be staying on for a while longer.
I do wish some of the plans were able to be set a little more freeform, with workouts with longer/unlimited rest and maybe a ‘VO2 5 x 4 min @ max VO2, rest as needed’ kind of thing in there too, giving you a broad range for power targets and not dinging you for going over them or taking longer rest, but that’s another story.
Similarly I want to increase time to exhaustion at sweet spot and would love if I could add this as a sub-goal or a goal for a phase.
But all that aside, I really really am happy with the new feature I just discovered and how well it integrated with everything else. Thanks to whoever maintains or built it! (I’m guessing it’s a dogfooded tool that you guys maybe use to build workouts internally, too.)
FWIW: This winter I was usually rideable so I wound up doing more unstructured outdoor rides than plan workouts. I kinda sorta tried to align my unstructured rides with the intent of the plan. AI seemed to come to terms with and adapted my plan and predicted FTP appropriately after each ride or workout. There are some caveats and there is room for improvement, but IMO, the ability to take in and utilize unstructured rides is huge.
I tried to use it as well on a MacBook but there is no way to actually log in. It seems to be an issue for years which is very frustrating. The letter “e” does not work nor does pasting a password work.
It seemed to me that they have zero interest in having a creator maybe due to “ai everything”. It’s a feature that should be mandatory and directly integrated into the browser.

We have a workout creator that works! That’s what the OP is talking about.
Glad it makes you laugh. Personally, I find it somewhere between embarrassing and disappointing that a problem that has existed for years still hasn’t been fixed. Instead, users are expected to come up with workarounds. For example, copy & paste doesn’t work at all.
This kind of attitude is exactly why so many people complain here and end up leaving the platform. When software issues are consistently answered with “use this or that workaround” instead of actually fixing the underlying problem, it comes across as arrogant and dismissive.
Please don’t talk to someone who is at work - innocent work that harms nobody, he’s not a weapons manufacturer - this way.
If you don’t like it, take your money and time elsewhere. Software has bugs but everyone is trying their best, surely you understand that. Back in the day I used to spend hours with ini tweaks and workarounds just to get videogames to work on my computer…
(I am a videogame developer and am used to vitriol from upset customers!)
I have no issue with software bugs. Every software product has them. My concern is that this particular issue appears to have existed for years and affects something as fundamental as logging in. When the recommended solution is a workaround discovered by another user in 2022, it’s reasonable to ask why the underlying problem still hasn’t been fixed.
I wasn’t criticizing @eddie personally. My frustration is with the product team’s apparent prioritization of the issue, not with the employee responding on the forum.
In somewhat of a volte-face I now see that the workout creator won’t work for outdoor workouts - can sort a workaround for this pretty simply enough but would love if this is enabled as a feature in the future!
It’s mostly fine as I intend to do my 2x20 SS workout etc. (progressing over the winter months here in Cape Town up to 1x90) pretty much with no restriction on recovery so can go out and press the Lap button as I wish and match the workouts on my return home. Same with the max effort VO2 work I’m intending down the line… but may use the export script someone knocked up pre-zwift integration to get them onto my Karoo.
