That’s the first race I’ve enjoyed in a long time, especially the last 22 or so km :+1:

It served to remind me how much fun watching a bike race can be when Pogacar doesn’t manage to get away solo with an hour to go.

Can’t remember the last time a break survived from the Cipressa….fantastic finale, but I will admit that I missed the scenes of the peloton hurtling down the road next to the sea between the Cipressa and the Poggio.

Pog really messed up the sprint by dropping so far back….there was just no way he could close that big of a gap to MDVP once he opened the sprint. Massive props to Ganna for clawing them back to take 2nd. I was hoping he would just roll them once he caught back up, but he was clearly gassed from such a hard chase back on.

Just a great finale….very enjoyable from the trainer, too.

Was rooting for Ganna but will take a not-Pog as a win.

No ill-will against him, but I prefer a sport where the laws of physiology and physics still seemingly apply and you don’t have the worlds best climber also out-sprinting people 10kg+ heavier than him on flat sprints.

Argeeed. I was kind of surprised Ganna helped at all. Not sure why, but I loved that he would just reel them back in.

I wonder what Pog’s comment to MVDP was after the MVDP attack?

If Ganna would have not pulled before the Poggio and started and early sprint would he have won? He looked to be gaining on MVDP in the last 200 k?

I think Ganna’s pulls were pretty minimal in between the Cipressa and Poggio….pretty much through and off. Just enough to take his turn but not enough to really tax him. It was clear from the Cipressa that he would be vulnerable on the Poggio, either way.

That was a brilliant race once Pogi started lighting it up.
I was surprised how far back he was before starting his sprint, but hats off to the 3 of them, well deserved!

Think Ganna almost needed to sit 20m back from them instead of making the catch, ride steady watts and then pick a moment to build up speed and go past with proper momentum and hope to catch them unawares. Easier said than done when you’ve just chased 2 of the greatest cyclists we’ve seen up and down a couple of hills though!

With Pog’s first attack, I thought here we go again, the same boring solo win, but I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed it :+1:

Wow what a race probably the most entertaining MSR I ever watched. Seeing the 3 big favorites off the front after the cypressa was insane. Mvdp was super impressive on the poggio and played it perfectly. Impressive sprint and timing. Both Ganna and pogi would have needed a fast sprint to have s chance.

Not sure if Mvdp will be able to hang on to pogi in Flanders he seemed to be on the ropes on the cypressa… But with the current form I don’t think anyone else is Winning Flanders.

The women’s race waited until the last couple of K to be exciting, but it was a great finish.

Wow…honestly, a bit surprised after his crash at Strade.

Somewhat akin to MSR, the laws of physics don’t align well for him in Roubaix. Raw watts > w/kg….plus it will be his first ride across the cobbles. Lots of things to learn, I suspect.

But will be fun to watch!

Yeah will be interesting to watch but if MVDP is on form it will be nearly impossible and I think riders like Ganna and Wout if he comes back to form are just too much for Pogi there.

I don’t think racing these races is necessarily more dangerous then racing a week long state race…

E3 today…crap organizers, great race!

Not certain what Ineos was thinking coming into the Taienberg…they strung it out for a few KM leading up to it, but it just set up Mads and MDVP to attack on the climb and Ganna had to chase to get on to their wheels.

Things are looking bleak for Wout, I fear…nowhere near the front and has missed the key move. Looks like Jorgensen is chasing hard in the 2nd group, but Wout is MIA.

Damn…MDVP just dropped everyone in his group on the Kwaremont like it was a cafe ride.

Pucker moment for MDVP there…

Dairy producers all over Belgium are putting Wout’s face on their milk cartons right now…

Hate to see it.
