Outside -Drops outs with Garmin 840 and Assioma power meter

Hey on my last several outdoor and indoor rides I have experienced a lot of dropouts with my power meter on my Garmin 840 non solar. I usually have my phone and a Polar heart rate monitor connect to the head unit but that’s it. I have check on software updates for the pedals and Garmin.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

This just reminded me, I have the exact same as you and when I’m out I swear it’s dropping out.

Will double check my data, wonder if it’s a bug

How do you connect ant+ or Bluetooth and how do you notice?

I have assiomas but use a roam v2, have never noticed drops in power or cadence only heart rate (usually due to hr monitor low battery)

Any chance you’re recording with two devices (e.g. watch + Edge)? If so, triple-check your crank length setting is correct on both.

One unintuitive thing to check might be any custom Connect IQ data fields you have enabled. At one point I was experiencing power & HR dropouts on every ride until I did a factory reset. Through trial and error I found a Connect IQ field that caused the drops. In my case it was the WindField weather app, which doesn’t use power or heart rate data at all, which made it even more perplexing.

Just check my Assioma settings and the crank arm length WAS set incorrectly. I changed from 172.5 to 170. I hope this solves the issue!! Thanks Ray.

Gonna bump this to see if anyone has gotten a resolution. I haven’t seen anything on the Garmin forum.

This post caught my attention a few weeks ago when I noticed my 1040 (software V2 21.18) getting a lot of dropouts from my Assioma Duos during outside rides. I occasionally ride with Aftershokz and run Windfield as an IQ Connect add-on. (I mention IQ Connect because there were some comments and speculation in the Garmin forum that this may be the culprit. I’m not convinced, but putting it out there nonetheless.) The attached screenshot is of Flethcer -1 from this morning, an easy zone 1/2 ride. I think I had 3 stops for traffic lights, so everything else you see are dropouts. Is this a widespread issue with the x40 series? Appreciate any comments/resolutions.

ETA: I’m switching to my trusty 830 for comparison.

My edge 840 solar seems to have an issue where I absolutely need to reset the unit before a ride or my power and hr disconnect as I start the ride and only a reset will fix it. It’s very frustrating and has been consistent through the firmware versions.
