Non-event plans

Nothing in my calendar right now and I’m in my recovery week post event so looking to build out the next block.

Since there’s nothing planned yet I was looking at 2 months endurance builder. Then after 2 months I hope to have some goals/events for 2027 so add in a full plan.

When building the 2 month one, it’s ours in 2 * 4 week blocks, one build and one specialisation. I was of the understanding that the specialisation was more sharpening fitness ready for the big day and as such for a non-event plan there should be less to none of this block and probably some base instead.

I’m probably going to schedule in an old school base block before plan builder for this reason but was curious why 2 months endurance would totally skip any base blocks.

Yup, I found the same thing as you did. I didn’t feel like going in to a build/specialty phase in my recovery period so I ended up manually putting in a base block.

Since you found it too it’s probably by design, will wait on TR to explain the reasoning (which probably makes sense). But for now I’ll use a couple of old base blocks to get started.

@eddie and/or @Caro.Gomez-Villafane you guys are my usual source of truth here and didn’t think it warranted a whole support ticket for a, hopefully, easy question!

I’m asking the team about this.

I can see why you might have been expecting a different type of plan. How many days a week are you riding?

  • 3 * 1 hour (Mon, Tue, Thur)
  • 1 * 45 min on Friday
  • Unstructured weekend ride

That’s my plan, in adding a old school plan I’m doing Mon, Tues, Thurs all an hour long, plus a weekend ride.

A couple things here:

I think we always default to adding specialty phases, then build, then base depending on time availability, rather than the other way around. I’m digging into why we went that direction.

With those 45-60 minute workouts, you’ll likely need a bit of intensity to keep building fitness, which is why you’re seeing those harder workouts.

Be interested to see the reasoning for specilisation over base, I wasn’t questioning any workouts per se and the 45 min is just a nice extra over the low voume 3 * 1 hour option.

I’ll follow up when I hear back. :technologist:

@eddie Not sure if you’ve heard back yet?

Unfortunately, no.

I’ll try to get some eyes on it. :eyes:

It sounds like there were slightly different concepts behind goal-based plans and event-based plans, with the event-based ones being a bit more committed and specific.

Goal-based plans had a bit more emphasis on dynamic training, and even a little bit of fun factor, which is why they default to the more unique training phases in shorter plans.

Let me know if this makes sense. :+1:
