It 2nd week of base so a 1W increase over a 28 day period isn’t appropriate
up 25 watts
I didn’t notice that yesterday. Man, that’s a real bummer if the extended warm up and cool down/extensions are gone. Sigh.
Turns out I can’t add time using the Android app on my phone. Was ok on the workout this evening using windows App.
Must be one of the workouts with some ending (maybe it was >55% or sth like this) that isn’t recognized as cooldown by app and therefore no extend cooldown option showing. This was an edge case long time ago discussed somewhere in the forum.
I’d rather make even fewer decisions than “masters or not”. The only decisions I want to make are on the tradeoffs in fitness between my various races this season. I want TR to work backwards from those decisions to give me my training plan, and I don’t want to have to decide ahead of time about:
- masters or not
- balanced or aggressive
- 5 or 6 days a week
- whether the library has an appropriate workout for the day’s time duration fixed months ago
How is the plan supposed to know how well you plan on sleeping and how many days you can train. You had to make those choices before the update.
You don’t have to select the option to allow it to extend, it’s a nice option. Turn it off if you don’t want to use it.
I replied to a post wondering if the AI could take care of the Masters/Non-Masters decision; it’s a different thread than the “extending cooldown” discussion.
Anyone else playing whack-a-mole with their calendar? I’m getting red days all over the place and I’m feeling fine. Have to keep changing workouts to get what I want as they keep changing after a while.
Just roll with the non-masters. If/when it senses you might get burned, it’ll warn you with some red days, and downgrade the subsequent workouts, and if you start to crack even after the AI’s best efforts, you’ll likely be sufficiently motivated to make the decision (or you weren’t answering the survey honestly).
Like Ai FTP.
Ok, if Ai FTP is using Ai to replicate FTP testing, then yes, that would be good. That was how they described their old Ai FTP detection, a way to accurately replicate the 20min or ramp test. Then you use it for all your platforms since they said that its interchangeable. However, they have said that this Ai FTP doesn’t do that, that its not the same. Kind of like if I say your house is 25 Ai miles from here but it doesn’t equal normal miles, it just means something vague in an algorithm that nobody can really be sure of. That would make it difficult to find your home. ![]()
Sleep can help with FTP as well, it probably knows you’re sleeping. It knows EVERYTHING ![]()
Hi, thanks for the ever evolving development. I do have a problem, I have a gravel stage race in October and need to “trust” the system to get me there. my problem is how the system is “chocking” me to rest days, munch more than before. I need to get time in the saddle to condition myself to be able to sit for 5-8 hours in the saddle for 7 days, also 2 or 3 1 day ultra races in the buildup. I have noted the Trainerroad comment re including the long zone 2 rides. But the long rides is essential the alternative would be saddle sores in the race. I use my Garmin Training Readiness that incorporate my sleep patterns an found it very effective over the past couple of years. How do I deal with this excessive rest days, lie to the system?
The second issue, or functionality, is to get some sort of benchmark that I would need to be able to complete the race. Surly if the system know that my goals are and develop a programme to achieve it there should be some “score” in the various systems that would be required to be successful, how else would the system know how to train me. e.g. endurance score or threshold score.
I have been using Trainerroad for years, the core of the system is to see progression and that cause trust, the changes are not giving me a warm feeling and trust is waning.
I’ve been experimenting with the latest TrainerRoad update and wanted to share some positive feedback, as well as a small point for discussion.
One of my favorite changes in this update is that workout levels are now evaluated based on what you actually did, not just what was prescribed.
This morning, my workout was rated 6.2 instead of the planned 5.3, which feels much more accurate and representative of the actual stimulus.
Another big favorite is that when you add extra Z2 after a workout, that added work is also evaluated and reflected in the workout levels. This is a huge improvement and finally aligns with how many of us actually train in practice.
I also really like how flexible workout duration has become. Being able to specify the time I can train, or even set a maximum duration and have TrainerRoad recommend an appropriate workout that fits my schedule, feels like a very meaningful upgrade.
On top of that, I find it interesting that TrainerRoad now shows a projected FTP if you follow the plan as scheduled. When I try swapping different workouts, it’s clear that simply choosing harder workouts doesn’t automatically raise the projected FTP — completion and success rate seem to play a significant role as well.
Overall, this update makes TrainerRoad feel significantly more flexible and adaptive than before.
That said, it also seems that TrainerRoad is now suggesting extending workout duration, with the idea that my current duration no longer provides enough stimulus and that higher difficulty workouts may no longer be effective.
I understand the logic behind this, but personally I can already accumulate sufficient time-in-zone within a 90-minute workout. So I can’t help but wonder: instead of extending duration, wouldn’t increasing the FTP setting achieve the same goal more efficiently?
They said that their new AI FTP v2.0 is designed to give you the right power targets during draining, to keep it challenging yet manageable in the long term. From my own experience with it, it does that very well.
That’s quite different from, say, designing it to predict the outcomes of a ramp test or a 20-minute test. As an interesting corollary, it seems that the power reference levels that, say, the 20-minute test gives you is not as good a benchmark here.
You might want to try having one of the Ultra Races as your first A race for the season then have the Gravel Stage Race as your second peak. That might cause the dynamic endurance to ramp up earlier.
October is also 10 months from now. So you probably don’t need to be doing extra long rides now.
Thanks a lot for the post and the screenshot.
With the new system I also saw an increase, from 298 W to 333 W, and according to the new FTP predictions there still seems to be potential up to around 350 W.
Honestly, all of this is quite surprising — especially considering my family and professional situation. I try to keep consistency high, but I have to do a lot of Zone 2 rides because the workouts often fall at the most inconvenient times.
What immediately stood out to me in your screenshot is your low max HR, which I happen to share as well. In the latest podcast it was briefly mentioned that HR is also taken into account in the analysis. It would be interesting to know whether the AI might be overestimating our potential due to the low HR.
I’ve been using TrainerRoad since 2019 and I trust that with the latest update they’ve set the right course, so that we can all have a successful 2026 season.

Thought I’d add my (limited) experience so far.
Just before the update rolled out, I got a normal FTP detection bump from 286 → 292. My goal has been to hit 300 this year and I’ve been putting work in so I was stoked to be right at the doorstep.
2 days after that regular FTP detection, the AI update rolls out and it puts me at 306. Sweet! But scary ha.. Not gonna lie, I looked at the week of workouts ahead and was getting nervous. I had a SS workout today that had my doing 10 minute intervals at 288 watts (over my previous FTP). Figured let’s give it a shot and stayed positive.
Hit the workout this morning and gotta say, felt just right! The system is predicting another big bump up to about 322 in a few weeks which again seems pretty scary, but I’m going to roll with it and see what happens.
