New custom plans with yellow days

When folks are creating a new TR custom training plan does the new plan have yellow days throughout the calendar from the start ? Do these yellow days persist as the weeks go by regardless if you take a day off or not?

Yellow days are expected and they tend to decrease as you go through the plan. Yellow just means you are putting in hard work and need to be cautious of doing any activity the day after a hard workout. Don’t want to impact your next hard workout by overdoing a recovery or endurance ride.

New plans if you are ramping up TSS will have yellows. They will go away overtime if you stabilize your volume. Having them after a hard workout aren’t bad. Jonathan has said on the podcast they are not bad.

So for context I was at a FTP of 246 and had done a solid 3 months of maintenance and was predicted to go up. Then I started in Jan a new aggressive plan and when AI came out my FTP was predicted to go up but after a few rides it dropped So I redid the plan and choice a balanced approach. The new AI generated predictions was back up to fTP 249 if I recall correctly. But let me say it again even with a less aggressive “balanced” plan I had yellow days. It hasn’t changed is several week. My god I’m only riding now 4 hours a week.

Congrats on the yellow days! That means you’re pushing hard!

Does it ??? I’m not against yellows but the marketing of custom plans states the plan meet you where your at so why would a plan have yellow days out of the gate especially if it’s a less aggressive plan

A yellow day just means the day before was hard relative to your recent training. If you had red days all over a plan that would be a concern. Or if your yellow days were extending to your hard days. If your plan is something like T/R/Sat hard - Sun Endurance. It’s not a problem if say Wednesday and Sunday are yellow days. If Thursday was yellow that would be a problem. So if you added another endurance day on Wednesday and it was long enough that Thursday because Yellow then you’d want to cut Wednesday back.

So today I did an easy 45 minutes per the plan, this week 4 of the plan so every ride has been endurance and rated easy. What happens I drop more with FTP and my yellows stay bright. Phew 4 hours of a recovery week per the balance plan all easy rides. So happy I got yellows again for another 4 weeks

Is it possible there’s a bug and my plan isn’t adjusting the workouts or difficulty? Feels like folks see my yellows and automatically believe it’s right. Telling you it doesn’t feel right

Post an image of your last 4 weeks and your TSS.

On my iPhone let me switch to the desk top and try and add screen shots

note: these yellow days were there prior to the completion of the rides or the rating of them

Ramping up…

Doesn’t look bad. Similar to mine when ramping up.

so your dropping FTP and yellows are predicted to stay the same for 2 months, doesn’t feel like a ramp up … does the plan change the wattages each day based on fatigue and results or is it locked in until the next month? following a plan that after 4 weeks drops needs to be validated

When you were at 246 was that when you were training significantly more? I didn’t see that your FTP was dropping, just was looking at your 4 week chart and the yellows.

Dec 24th was 246 FTP. I was in maintenance plan for 3 months very similar hours to now. I had reduced my hours to avoid burnout oct dec . When it ended and the new plan I went aggressive and the new AI had me at 253. I was pumped but after one work out it dropped to 243 i think. So I said to myself let’s start a new plan that’s not aggressive but is a new custom balanced approach When I did it the ftp prediction shot up to 249! Again after a few rides it dropped to 243. Then 241. Then 237 and now today 236. So help what gives. I am doing a custom plan similar hours for 4 months :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

Only thing I see is that all of your Threshold workouts are ending up Very Hard. I’d have expected them to be Hard, as that is what the model would expect. So if they are consistently very hard, I think it would mean that your FTP is going to stay pretty flat.
