Plan changed to red day/rest

Hi! I’m new to Trainer Road. I put in my A race and the plan was developed around it. I’m following the plan, but this week and last week, there were a lot of days which changed to red/rest. I feel great, my garmin metrics are all great. Why did the plan change if I’m doing it as prescribed? Why prescribe it just to take it away? I’m confused - should I do my easy aerobic endurance ride today, or not?

If you post a picture of your last 4 weeks of training and next 4 weeks and/or make your profile public then people in the community can help.

Did you upload any history to TR when you started? If not, it is probably still trying to learn what you can handle. And even if you did it might think you’re doing too much. You can either follow what TR is giving you, and it will eventually figure it out and give you more/harder, or you can just do what you want and it will also eventually catch up, but you’ll see red/yellow days until it does. Just be sure to rate all of your workouts correctly.

Hi @lisalgraves

Welcome to the TR Forum!!

It looks like @LacticacidMCB’s fatigue suspicion was correct, hehe. I took a look at your Calendar and there isn’t much training history for our fatigue management system (red/yellow days) to go off yet, so it’s ramping you up slowly in terms of volume.

On top of that, you’re on a tri plan, which means extra load from swim and run workouts. It makes sense that those, combined with the added strength training, are triggering yellow and red days. As you continue training and the system starts to learn how much load you can handle, you’ll see those yellow and red days begin to shift.

For now, you can follow the recommended adjustments and also use a bit of discretion based on how you’re feeling when deciding whether to complete workouts on yellow/red days.

Hi! This is super helpful. My history isn’t super accurate because I don’t always turn my watch on for swims, treadmill runs, and 2 of my bikes don’t have power pedals. Basically, I love exercising, but don’t always love “metrics”. Now that I’m on a plan, I am being more careful to record what I’m doing - AI can’t help if there’s no data. I’m trying to use discretion when the plan shifts to red - some days I’ll rest, others I’ll just do the workout since I feel great. I’m sure in time things will settle and normalize. I’m only 4-5 weeks into the TR plan. I really appreciate the response! -L
