My Whoosh! the new Zwift 2.0?

Wahoo is far from the only trainer maker with repeat issues. I can point to common issues with at least one key unit in all the main brands (including the one’s you have not had issues with).

I agree completely. The Maytag repairman (if you remember that ad campaign) was an example of great customer service. Wahoo is an example of poor QC.

The praise comes in the fact that they don’t leave you hanging IF you happen to get something faulty… which can happen with anything that has a mechanical element. I’ve had to return 2 units to Wahoo, and in both cases they were quick to respond to my concerns and even quicker to get me another unit!

I’m not seeing any praising them for the inconvenience. That’s what’s strange with wahoo users. The only other band with that type of user tunnel version and willing to blame themselves for the design fault is apple.

I prefer mine to work as advertised. Praising for a company to honor their warranty should not be necessary. When my hard drive failed on my Dell laptop I didn’t go gaga that they replaced it. It was a hassle at best and I didn’t have to deal with a person second guessing that the drive was dead.

Well, don’t we all… but sh!te happens and it’s good to know that a company will stand behind their product (poor QC aside as a previous post suggested) with prompt and courteous customer service and not simply not return/ignore a phone call/email/etc.

I think THIS is the crux of what others are getting at with their “praise” of wahoo.

Anyway… topic DERAIL… MyWhoosh, anyone???

My Whoosh ist now availabe as Apple TV App (only Beta atm) and as macOS (Production) too, i think i will test Apple TV tomorrow:

Interesting - I couldn’t see which versions of AppleTV will be supported, and it seems like quite a few hoops to jump through if mine isn’t! I already know my 2019 iPad isn’t.

I’ve never been interested in this app for a variety of reasons… but they dump crap tons of money into advertisement, sponsorship, and events… and the app itself is free forever?

What the hell is their business model? I know petrostate and all that… but still hard for me to grasp they are literally just lighting cash on fire to promote the UAE virtually?

Yes, it’s all part of promoting UAE. This is hardly a drop in the ocean for the amount of money they spend on tasteless gimmicks… Like that very silly picture frame thing, talk about burning money. Perhaps to give their economy relevance in the post-oil age.

How is rider count these days? I don’t use MyWhoosh, but for the few rides I did it was abysmal. Being free still doesn’t mean people will use your offering.

If you aren’t paying for something with money, you are the product. I guess this announcement makes it that little bit clearer but I’m sure there are many reasons and I can’t speak for anyone else.

I’m aware of this, obviously. But the Arabs are another whole story. As some people mentioned before, they’re doing very much to put themselves on the map or, for lack of better words, to makes themselves more visible and relevant …

True, guess though in most cases that means you’re being monetized either through advertising and/or selling your data. For Whoosh it’s more about PR for the UAE (or sportswashing if you prefer).

2 factors that I think are often overlooked when talking about UAE money in cycling. One is that this is at least in part a bit of a passion project/hobby - there are some high up and wealthy people over there who are genuinely into riding their bikes. It’s why they bought Colnago, and in that context I’m not sure it’s all that different to Pinarello being bought by the ex-CEO of Glencore who is a cycling enthusiast, or Jim Ratcliffe using some of his billions from Ineos to indulge his passion for sport with investments in cycling, football, F1, sailing, and countless other examples of wealthy benefactors in sport. The other factor is that there is a big problem in UAE with obesity and diabetes and they are trying to get the local population to be more active. They’ve spent a lot of money building and maintaining dedicated bike tracks and facilities over there (all free to use) - that has nothing to do with sportswashing and everything to do with encouraging people to get on a bike. Given summer temperatures over there then having a UAE-owned indoor cycling platform also makes sense.
