I have been using the new TR AI since the first day it came out. It has me doing 2 days per week of either VO2 max workout or over under threshold. I used to do only VO2 max workout per week and 4 days of Endurance in Zone 2 with some Zone 3 mixed in. My FTP was 196 before TR AI; they lowered it on first day to 185. After 4+ weeks following their Plan for me to increase my endurance (which I don’t really need as that is my strength) they project my FTP will go from to 183 in 4 days! I have been working harder than ever before and have not failed one workout. In fact I usually push my Saturday long endurance ride from the 1.5 hours TR recommends to 3 hours at a higher Zone 2 than they recommend. What is going on with their software as my FTP should be now going up and getting back to what it was before this major software update??
If you’d like help. Otherwise people are just guessing
- What plan are you following? What phase.
- Provide your last couple of weeks of training
- The training between now and your ftp prediction.
Hey @SW0000 ![]()
As @LacticacidMCB, posting images of your Calendar to see your training is helpful so that other athletes can help you and have context on what you’re trying to figure out.
That said, I took a look at your past training plans, and they all have 2 interval days. We don’t have plans with just 1 interval day per week. Did you perhaps manually change your Saturdays over-unders on your last plan to endurance?
This post may be helpful on explaining potential causes of FTP going down:
But from what I am seeing on your Calendar your old FTP of 196 cannot be compared to the new AI FTP Detection because this wouldn’t be comparing apples to apples. Much like buying a new weight scale, you still weigh the same but the scales read different. So with the new AI FTP your fitness has not changed from having an FTP of 196 (old FTP Detection) to 185 as this is a new recalibrated FTP Detection for the new system.
Your new recalibrated FTP of 185 landed on Jan 20th, on the same week you took a vacation (Jan 20th-27th). After this you started a Building Endurance plan on the 28th, and in total just had 2 weeks of interval work on it. Interval workout is what drives the most adaptations to increase FTP, not necessarily putting in more endurance time. Then on the 17th (today) your new AI FTP Detection is coming to 184. I would say that this is pretty sensible for the amount and kind of training you did this past block.
Plus a good indicator that you’re getting served the correct intensity on interval workouts are your post workout survey which you’re marking as Hard or Very Hard.
All this said, I see that you will be entering a Specialty Phase, in which you changed one of your interval workouts per week and pin them to have 1 interval day + 4 endurance days. This is OK if you want to have it that way, but just know that to drive FTP increases you will need interval work. If you change these back to interval days I bet you will see FTP gains.
Another thing I noticed is that you build short 2-3 months training plans. It may be more beneficial to set a longer plan, say 6 months, to create consistency in your training so you can build from one block to another. This will also naturally bring fitness/FTP gains!
