Autosomal genes are also involved, eg a well known variant in alpha 3 actinin makes you either a sprinter or more an endurance athlete

I don’t have any easily available references, but I seem to recall that not all of the mitochondrial proteins are coded for by the mitochondrial DNA. As such, some of the genes involved in mitochondrial function do come from your father.

Only the electron transport chain enzymes are encoded in the mitochondria DNA ( a couple of other rRNAs but not much else).

So while those are the most important, they are only part of the aerobic capacity, and I would assume a majority of the aerobic capacity alleles (markers) are from both parents.

Take MVDP, for example, both parents’ genes are stacked!
