I’m after some perspective as I return to the training load I was doing at the end of last year. I’ve just had three months off the bike, but before that was riding around eight hours a week, and more just before my break with the Festive 500.
In returning to training on a TR program I’m feeling the number of rest days scheduled is more than I need. Three in a row after a hard ride seems a bit too much, given I was fairly active (not logged and not cardio) during the break.
The question is should I be conservative and take the three days off or is the TR ai not quite on it for this? Will the program improve as I move back to my old volume?
Do the first week as suggested, see how you feel. Maybe do a 30-45min easy spin on the second day off if there’s no stiffness or fatigue.
Our bodies super compensate, so a small stimulus now after three months off will have a greater effect than it would have last year.
Rushing to higher volumes will slow your improvement rather than accelerate it. Bear in mind that AI is analysing your training history and recommending what best stimulates consistent gains for you.
Thanks, yeah I’m three weeks in now and just now getting back to the full distance for my regular 2.5hr ‘hard’ ride (double what TR is scheduling). I was thinking much the same in that conservative is wise, building volume with very easy rides - and only if I’m feeling recovered.
