It is a conversation about riding on a velodrome.

Velodrome humor.

I wanted to say ā€žgoing in circles like an hour recordā€œ but technically it is an oval…

An hour record ends.

We are only at just over 60 ā€žlapsā€œ, an hour record should be over 200, so we still have a long way to go.

slowtwitch is already there.

Ganna is going to take the world record next!

And likely put it on a shelf where no one will touch it for awhile.

Probably only way to get his record is to convict him of blood doping.
His power on the TT/ Track bike is second to none. He’d Probably smash the 56k quite effortlessly.

Even Ganna will have to go to a dark place to go 56k. An hour is a different beast than a 4k individual pursuit. What we have seen from Ganna so far shows that even he fades in longer ITTs ( compare his last 10ks to WvAs in the worlds TT; maybe it came down to cornering and Wout is just that much better in bike handling than FG (bet he is, but that doesn’t mean anything on the track)).

Ganna is still very young. Since he has shown potential to also win classic stages in Grand Tours, Iā€˜d venture the guess, that he will focus more on longer endurance (especially longer than the 4 minutes of a 4kP).
If he did attempt an HR, heā€˜d probably prepare over a longer time for that. Heā€˜d have to smash the world record, everything else would be deeply disappointing.
But again, he is super young. He could do it in 6, 8 or 10 years time and still be in amazing form.

Lionel says that during his 30min test he averaged 380w… if you assume that he did that for the full hour, his CdA is around 0.1950 m^2. Even with the assumptions that need to be made, that is high for an athlete at that level!

I everything remained the same, he would need to average 465w (+85w / +22.30%) to get to 55km.

There would need to be some serious investment in equipment and refinement in position to bring his CdA down to a competitive level before he threatens any records.

It would be an even taller order than that. Test was 30 minutes at 50 kph. CdA is ~0.22. He’d have to average close to 500 watts to break the WR.

Didn’t realise it was at 50kph… makes it even worse :man_facepalming:

Wiggins seems to think Ganna could smash the current record so it would be great to see him and others give it a go.

Not sure if it was mentioned here… but he made had PR on his 5k a week before this…
14:xx!
Thats also an incredible time for a tri athlete! (well for anyone outside of professional 5k people)

Yes, I’d love to see Ganna have a go. Realistically he’s said that the Olympics are his main goal next year … then after that, he’ll have the same challenge as most cycling pros - persuading their trade team to invest the time, effort and opportunity cost (because if you’re training for the hour record, you’re not winning races for your team).

LOL completely agree! Side note: what fire arm do you all carry when riding and where do you stow it? Oh crap, wait, wrong forum :joy:
