Kickr won't go above 3 mph

I have a 2017 Kickr that has been perfect until now, but now it’s malfunctioning. When I ride and pedal ujp to the correct poweer, two things happen. First, the speed dosesn’t go above 3 mph. I tried two different apps (Wahoo headunit and MyWoosh) and same for both. The original belt looks to still be OK. I’ve written Wahoo support, but wanted to see if any other users have had this problem. Thanks

The second problem the resistance feels much harder than the stated watts.

Never had this problem but wahoo support is fantastic. It could be a bearing issue. That was my issue for my Kickr Core from around that time period.

Not anymore they aren’t.

They’re running a skeleton crew over there…it takes a week for them to respond to each reply you send them so tread lightly…give them too much information rather than not enough. Took me over a month to go from initial ticket to replaced product over 5 replies.

IDK, but the virtual speed a direct drive trainer reports depends on a virtual wheel diameter. If that’s gotten corrupted or changed somehow, that affect the speed it reports. IDK if you can see or set that on Kickrs.

I got a warrantied Kickr Core from 2018 a few weeks ago. I agree it took some time to get responses, but they ultimately solved my problem. Garmin barely does anything for brand new watches that have issues. But as always mileage will vary.

May need to do an advanced spindown. They don’t recommend doing it too often. I had done it to my v1 or v2 kickr and it felt brand new after. Initially, it felt similar to what you’re describing, but also the sensation of pedaling through mud/sand.

Funny, my Kickr only goes 0 MPH and doesn’t move at all. :winking_face_with_tongue:

I noticed last week that my crank length on the app was something like 250! I corrected it to 172.5 but that didn’t help

Thanks. I had forgotten advanced spindown. I will try that.

This is what I did last year for mine and seemed to help. Wahoo support mentioned to do this sparingly.

Factory Spindown

  1. Open the Wahoo app for iOS or Android

  2. Open the Devices Tab.

  3. Select the trainer (KICKR, CORE, etc) from the list.

  4. Quickly tap the trainer icon in the center of the screen 10 times or until the popup menu appears.

  5. Select Factory Spindown from the popup menu that appears.

  6. Follow the instructions on screen–

    1. Warm up for 3 minutes.

    2. Gradually pedal up to 23mph/37kph and stop pedaling when directed.

    3. Allow the trainer to spin down and wait for further direction.

    4. Again, gradually pedal up to 23mph/37kph and stop pedaling when directed.

    5. Allow the trainer to spin down and wait for further direction.

  7. A success or failure message will appear.

It’s good to try a spindown calibration but like changing crank length, it shouldn’t affect virtual speed. Those things could affect how the resistance feels, but that should not affect virtual speed, which is the product of the rate of rotation of the cassette times the circumference of a virtual tire, which is just like using a speed sensor when actually riding outdoors. The rate of rotation times the wheel circumference is the speed. If you can only get up to 3 mph when you should be doing a virtual 30 mph, then the wheel circumference is 1/10 what it should be.

I seem to remember the Kickr using an optical sensor to calculate speed, it could be that, there are instructions online how to clean it.
