Jetblack Victory

Might be worth trying to sell my core for 350 on FB marketplace and pick one of these up new

Surprised it wasn’t supplied with a belt.

Why?

Quieter, longer life, no maintenance, looks like the routing is already meant for belts with that tensioner setup instead of breaking the rear triangle.

(sorry, for the Zwift bike and not the trainer itself)

That just starts to open up the can of worms that Zwift missed: standard bottom bracket, multi-length cranks, seat fore-aft adjustment without touching the saddle.

There’s a number of reasons, some valid, some not some not so much. Volume and support logistics from distributors is often cited but there is often a premium because it is simply what the Canadian market will bear.

I know and agree that it’s not just a plain straightforward conversion.

Just can’t see the reason behind it. Well, I have an idea. Let’s see how this will unfold.

A couple of things. It’s priced just low enough to make it a hassle to order from the US, incur shipping, possibly some duty and taxes are taxes whether it comes across the border or bought locally. Can be cheaper but is it that much cheaper to deal with that,? For most people no, they just want to pick it up from the store and go home so $50-100 isn’t a dealbreaker.

The big hassle is if you need support. If you have to return or exchange etc, the Canadian distributor will tell you to kick rocks if you have an issue because it didn’t come through them and bought on the grey market.

I think they positioned it 50 CAD lower than the Core just to beat the price while they haven’t settled inventory needs. They aren’t much preocopied with the Canadian market as they might not be able to fully attend the US market.

The website only offered the trainer until two days ago. Now they also offer a “trainer tray”.

I’m more interested in a fan to be honest, which I’ll probably buy from Amazon (Lasco). Same price.

Fair. I was replying in more of a general sense why CDN prices for goods are almost always notably greater than US price x exchange for most goods.

Hey @GPLama , do you know if the Victory has a similar ‘Control w/ ANT+ power meter’ that the Kickr Core does?
I really like the look of the Victory but I generally use my Assiomas on my Kickr as the power source.

As in bridging a power sensor? Not an option I’ve seen in the JB app.

FYI I made a post on reddit about this and got this response:

"Full disclosure, we have been the Canadian Distributor of Jetblack for many years.

Here are a few factors that go into the price of the Victory unit.

First, in the US, JetBlack is direct to consumer and have taken a very aggressive approach with their pricing. It’s understandably the biggest market in the world and Jetblack has taken a specific direct to consumer approach to be more competitive.

Look at pricing in other market and you will see that the US is clearly positioned very differently than other market and that the Canadian price is very much aligned with other international market.

AU 749$ - keep in mind this is where Jetblack is.

EU 499$

CAD 749$ (free shipping)

US 399$ (30$ shipping)

In Canada, we have been working with retailers for years and believe this structure provides better customer service for the consumers and intend to keep this structure. We have worked hard to keep them in our retail structure.

We believe this provides better support to consumers, from us directly or by retailers.

Compare this to the main competitor for the Victory, the Kickr Core One (for which pricing was just dropped 2 days ago)

US$ 499

CAD$ 859$ (not 1,35X but1,72X) – no Zwift membership included. This still comes with v1 COG for now but the Victory has V2 COG.

I’m sure you can understand that Wahoo as larger volume and economy of scale vs Jetblack.

The Victory includes 2 free months of ZWIFT (value of 50$ CAD).

Among other factors but without going into too many details:

¡ Duties and customs charges can vary in each country

· Shipping – the cost of shipping from the moment we committed to those units to today has increased drastically and we have absorbed all related cost

¡ Shipping in Canada is more expensive that in US

¡ Financing

I can assure you we have done everything we can to be as competitive as possible.

The Victory is still the most competitive ZWIFT READY unit on the Canadian market.

I hope this can shed a different light on the situation."

I meant this (from Wahoo’s website):

When using a Wahoo smart trainer (KICKR, MOVE, CORE, or SNAP) you can use the Wahoo app to link your pedal or crank based ANT+ power meter to your trainer you can use your ANT+ power meter to control the resistance of your trainer

I use this feature so my indoor and outdoor training is only based on my Assiomas
Not sure if this is the same as ‘bridging’?

Doesn’t have that.

@GPLama The Victory has a „JetBlack Proprietary Electromagnetic System“…so am I right to imagine a Tacx Neo kind of technology (and no belt)? Did you open it and see the electromagnetic coils? Would be an interesting video…

Do you remember the sprint slippage with the Neo they fixed with different arrangement of the coils iirc with the Neo 2T…anything similar with the victory?

I haven’t opened one up to have a look. From the outside, it looks more a standard electromagnetic flywheel style trainer than something like the Tacx Neo/Magene T600/Cycplus T2/T3 style resistance unit.

Hm I may get one if it ever becomes widely available here. Will probably wait to see how the overall feedback is, to see if there are production issues.

Which, I think, aligned with my thoughts. They positioned it based on the competitors, not based on the price of the product.

They are focusing on the US market, and I don’t blame them. They then positioned the product a bit lower than the main competitor, offering, in theory, more features.

Funny that he mentioned that they have a different approach in Canada, not direct customers. But they are selling the product through their website. You have to dig deep to find it for sale in the retail market. I found 1 store in Quebec only. 799.99

And just to clarify, it’s 799.99, not 749 as the person you quoted mentioned.

It’s another one of those why prices are higher. Distributor gets their cut too which is added on to the price.

The way they have their online presence set up makes it appear to be DTC. Go to the parent site jetblackcycling.com and you get a redirect to jetblackcyclingcanada.com. They don’t list their international distributors. The Canada site It doesn’t have any about info and direct contact is a form. No info as to who they are. If you dig into the terms and conditions, the email is from the alsport.ca domain which leads you to powersports (motorcycle, atv) dealership in Regina and has no mention of cycling products.
