I know people who ordered from the site… not just “backers” that got screwed.

Cycling Power Meter at a Breakthrough Price by Keesjan Klant — Kickstarter
It’s nearly as entertaining as some of the topics here.
I believe there’s is also an investigative attempt on YT.
I get what you are saying, but regardless if they are legally correct and backers are not owe anything, backers were royally fucked at the end. That called Lawful Evil.
Short version is that they tried a harebrained scheme with what little money they had left to do a small production run. The grand plan was to sell them to fund more production and start fulfilling KS/IGG backers but they needed to sell 3 or 5 sets per backer set to be fulfilled. Backers were understandably not amused that they were selling them before getting theirs.
There’s another story arc in there about an “entrepreneur” (sucker?) who came onboard to help them with this. It got ugly and personal fast.
To be fair, they might be more accurate ![]()
Yeah, I heard from a potential investor in the Netherlands, that they looked at the books, and all that money was well-past spent. As almost every new power meter company has learned (and Shimano), building an accurate power meter is very hard. It costs a lot of money, and then costs far more money and time than you planned. And then double that again. Doing a power meter pedal too? Even more complex and costly.
In the end, they didn’t have the funding to make that happen. Just like countless kickstarters before them, and countless non-kickstarter power meter companies before them.
Wow, there are still defenders for these scums?!
Who is defending them? I dont think anyone is defending them…
The fine print is a kickstart product is not guarantee. Is it a scam? I think it is. Is it legal? Probably. Is it ethical? Absolutely not.
Like I said before, they went Lawful Evil, to try to stay alive, fucked the backers in the process and they still didnt make it. Its a very fucked up situation for all the backers…
Hardly a fucked up situation - just like any investment you need to do your own due-diligence and are effectively taking a gamble that the people running and managing the business you’re investing in are decent professionals and that their proposal is actually viable. Most people took the gamble becuase they wanted a cheaper power meter than those already on the market.
what makes the situation fucked up, it the way they keep dragging it for YEARS and asking for more money even tho they knew they were falling. Thats fucked up.
Saying this is not fucked up, its like saying what Madoff did was not fucked up (I know, apples to Oranges), but you know what I mean.
Has Shimano learned? I don’t mean in the sense that they haven’t learned to produce an accurate power meter, which we all know they haven’t. What I mean is do they actually know their current generation of PMs is inaccurate?
They know it’s inaccurate. They just have a really hard time admitting it in public (but they do privately).
I feel like it’s one of those “the first steps to fixing a problem is admitting you have a problem thing”, and they’re still getting to that first step publically. Realistically, they won’t do that till they have a new generation that fixes it. I see no chance firmware updates will fix current gen.
