What I’m saying is if I can barely finish 6min intervals at 333w why would my ftp be higher than that.
I could probably only ride 10-15min at 350w
Yes
Awesome Update! Thanks for continuing to move the bar up with this platform!!
Just ran the estimate and It indicated a 4.8% increase. I am just finishing up my second round of 6 week Polarized plan (MV). It’s funny, as I was contemplating dropping my FTP about 10% as I have really struggled with completing the 4X8 Threshold workouts without either dropping down power, or having it turn into a massive VO2 level effort.
Now I am not sure what to do. I have always seemed to do much better with above threshold work. Thinking I may just move into a block of Tempo/SS efforts (at the new FTP estimate) to try to improve my muscular endurance capability…Decisions, decisions…
Thanks again for this huge new feature…Kudos to the TR Team!!!
Sweet! I’m pumped to give this a go.
I know this pain.
I mean, I was never that high but getting back down to where you started is never fun…
Other than the Photoshop ones it does seem a bit like AI FTP might have training wheels on at the moment. Lots of 0.5-1% increases.
I mean I can totally imagine coach Chad writing that but he would get the maths right on the deduction…
Awesome feature. If I never do a damn ramp test again it will be too soon ![]()
We’ll look at this one, thanks for reporting.
@ambermalika - I want to share an example of how this is REALLY helpful beyond just “I don’t like taking ramp tests”. I have a tricky left knee. I “prefer” the ramp test because it’s shorter, but I quit EVERY time because my knee just can’t hold those long intervals WAY above my ftp (example - if my FTP was 250, during the Ramp I have to hold 60 seconds at 300, 310, 320, etc., and it adds up!). This absolutely tears my knee up and I have learned to just quit because a higher FTP isn’t worth having knee pain for the next several weeks. I actually went back to the 20 minute FTP test as a result. I admit I’m the type to get the new TR estimate and then do a 20 minute test the first time or two just to validate it in my head, but after that, assuming it works, I don’t see myself needing to do those validation tests, and I DO see myself getting strong because I don’t have to baby my knee. This is a very real world example of TrainerRoad giving me the tools to get stronger AND stay healthy for longer with less risk. THANK YOU TrainerRoad! ![]()
Thanks Nate, I know I’m an outlier so I figured it would be a good edge case.
So happy. If I never have to take another ramp test again I will be a very very happy cyclist.
Just used it and got 2.5% increase based on outdoor rides. This is awesome! I don’t test well on either ramp or 20 min test and estimate my ftp based on my outdoor rides. Its great to have that validated by AI.
Ditto. I was checking the other thread somewhat but didn’t catch the 2 week part.
I’m not mad or anything, but I still think it would be a cool feature to allow you know what the AI prediction was vs your actual ramp result for a variety of reasons.
I assume the intent of the 2-week lock is so that people aren’t trying to use this on a daily basis and thus fall trap into making micro adjustments to their training based on macro level indicators? E.g. “why didn’t my workout this morning make my FTP go up, this plan is trash!!” ?
Why would us predicting an FTP that’s close to what you’re training at make it seem like there are training wheels?
If you think your FTP is correct and we predict the same number I’d consider that a big win.
So does this guess what your ramp test result might be OR
Better predicts a more reliable FTP in cases your a “ramp test over-tester”
@Nate_Pearson @ambermalika
Not complaining - Just reporting here in case it helps.
Took Ramp Test this past Monday 2/7/22 and went from 302 to 321
Manually deleted 321 FTP from account to trigger AI FTP detection on scheduled Ramp Test for today.
AI FTP detection has me going from 302 to 310.
Monday Ramp Test I felt I probably had more in tank and had not problem with Citadel this morning. Not concerned in the least as AT already adapted me after Citadel. I just entered manually my 321 back to keep things correct moving forward.
Anyway, not sure if I am an outlier or maybe this info can be used to increase accuracy later?
Really excited for this! Great Job! Already telling all my friends and family about it that I got turned on to TR!
- Yes. See the quote I snagged from the OP at the top:
What exactly is AI FTP Detection predicting? (i.e. Hour Power, 20 min FTP result, 8 min FTP result, Ramp Test?)
AI FTP Detection predicts what you could get as your FTP from completing a Ramp Test. That doesn’t mean you’re going to get that value if you do a Ramp Test; it’s just what the model predicts. What the model does not predict is what power you can hold for 60 minutes or any other type of FTP measurement out there. Someone who naturally struggles with Ramp Tests may get a higher estimate than what they expect and vice-versa for those who are good at taking the Ramp Test. What matters, ultimately, is whether you’re able to pass Productive workouts that follow the new FTP value.
Amazing what I can learn if I try reading a bit
thanks Chad!
