🎉 🎉 🎉 Introducing Adaptive Training! 🎉 🎉 🎉

Since I had just finished SS Base 1 and started SS Base MV 2 this week, I just simply deleted my plan and recreated a new one starting from the start date for SS Base 1. Worked fine for me.

Yeah, my issue was moreso that I was already in week 2 of SSB2 and didn’t want to mess with changing base workouts to the new style of plan just yet, but there’s no way of reversing that logic, unless I wanted to just manually replace all the workouts. I’m just going with it and subbing the really easy Wed/Fri 60min z2 rides with something like 90mins just to make things more interesting.

My survey on PC, just updated before riding, appeared in the wrong order.

I almost picked the wrong one because I was expecting the normal sorting.

Same here yesterday afternoon

I’ve bought an HRM so TR gets my HR data now, I’ve stopped customising plans and I promise to only use the Plan Builder Update to change anything, I’ve rebuilt my Plan Builder Plan and updated to the new workouts, my workouts compliance is near 100% over the last three months at least…so you can take me out of the “naughty” category and put me into the next batch with confidence

Yep, same yesterday. And it didn’t appear to save. When I logged in on the web it showed “missing response” so I entered it again (appeared in the correct order on the web).

Wanted to flag something for the TR team. I accepted adaptations without looking past the first week and the progression seems a bit off (i.e. there is none for the Tuesday and Friday rides). I’m not too concerned since the weird week is still over a week away, but thought I should mention it.

This is not true. Your feedback on how difficult the workout is is input to Adaptive training. You don’t have to fail the workout to say it was harder than expected.

That only works at a point in time. What was hard to me last week with a 750kcal deficit is not what’s hard to me today loaded to the eyeballs with carbs. Same goes if I’m desperately trying to get through harder workouts on 4hrs sleep a night when working on a deadline but I know that next week will be chilled for me.

Hence why I said that it doesn’t work under some specific circumstances. I can completely understand why if I’m marking something all out or hard the system might want to scale things back, but my knowledge of what’s going on with my life allows me to override it.

I think there is somewhat of an expectation that you are training consistently. If you vary your preparation for training between every workout, then yes, you are right, it will adapt slowly and perhaps be bouncing around. I think consistently fueling and recovering is part of successful training regardless of AT or not, so I don’t think the issue here is AT. If this is just an odd period of time when you have to do this for some other reason, then I think yes, being able to override it is a good skill to have, but I would think this should be the exception, not the norm.

In my experience life is rarely consistent / predictable! Your mileage may vary.

I do miss the days of having a simple 9-5 job. lol

i miss the day where it was just about consistently working out and not analyzing every single workout, every single interval, analyzing every single second and the data given to us by so many monitors and meters…

todays amateur average joes are being pushed by all those studies, so much Marketing and so many smartly developed advertisements into believing that a failed workout or a less well managed sessions, some nights of worse sleep or one oily Pizza will destroy your FTP, anyway a very random number not saying too much about each of us indivduals.

Madness, everyone knows pizza adds to FTP!

(Maybe not so useful for FTP/kg though…)

Its the P in FTP isn’t it ?

Thanks, was this before you were on adaptive, or you are still having to tweak it on the AT plans?

Citation please?

(that’s humor. if there is a citation I don’t want to know. conversely, if there is a study showing pizza increases ftp, please post)

i knew there will be noise about that pizza thing

i am just tired of this hair splitting about all this data, feedbacks, sessions, results, data, data, data.

i personally start to loose joy in cycling and training with this constant feeling that something was worse than in a session earlier, me being not efficient enough, what to eat, when to work out, which workout to do, at which intensity etc etc etc.

but maybe it is just me. i feel like I might be leaving TR because of the rising over complexity and giving me the feeling that I have to keep so many variables under control

You’ve never heard of Pizza Legs Syndrome (PLS) …???

You’re not alone. I actually make an intentional effort to ensure at least one ride each week for me is intended only for the joy of riding. I’ll often still make it a workout, but will choose something longer at endurance pace instead of sweet spot and I’ll stop when and where I like to take pictures, eat a snack, etc. And I’ve had the best gains of any season this year.

I’m of the opinion that many of the folks on this forum are trying too hard to optimize to the most minute detail and miss the forest for the trees. When optimization takes up that much time, it is no longer optimal imo.

As for staying with or leaving TR, I’ll add one last thing. The primary reason I use TR is because it removes the cognitive load of building out a plan for me so I don’t have to sweat the small stuff. If I had to spend all that time, I’d lose my damn mind. For the convenience alone, I find tremendous value, and that I continue to see good gains is an added bonus.

That was when I was manually swapping workouts while in AT. I did it because my Ramp test lead to odd Progression Level drops that drastically killed my VO2 workouts. It was recommending ones too easy, and too short of duration.

I have since exited the Build phase, and am in a Sweet Spot Base filler before my Specialty. So I am letting AT run the show again.
