I’m going to jump on this post about something I experienced on Saturday. I did Mansfield. It was a 2.9 threshold. 4×5mins @ 274w or whatever. Thought yeah I’ll try that even though it wasn’t too long since I had an FTP bump. Man it was tough. Really tough. Vo2 heart rate for sure. I did go for a run that morning followed by a 4 mile dog walk so I was busy beforehand.
This morning I was searching for a suitable Vo2 session for this evening. And some of them had much higher difficulty rating under the vo2 sessions but with shorter intervals. For example 3 mins at 276, which is only 3 watts higher.
I’ve opted for a session called Lamont. It’s a stretch and it’s a 4.0. it’s intervals are pretty much the same power target as Mansfield but with a 45 second rest in the middle. I figured it’d be no problems after Saturday.
I guess my point is, Mansfield was definitely vo2 for me anyway and caught me off guard and my next couple of actual vo2 sessions are going to feel “not too bad”
