How to sync rest week with holiday

I accept that the issue here may be that I didn’t give TR enough notice.

But I’m going on holiday next week. I’ve marked that in the calendar, and the plan has me doing a rest week when I get back. I’d much rather it considered my holiday the rest week, and we got back to some proper volume/intensity when I get back.

I can (and will) manually schedule something other the gentle rides it’s suggested, but is there a proper way to do this? I’d rather give the reins to the AI, in an ideal world.

Not really. Your plan is the best “solution” there is.

In these situations, we recommend taking the rest week since most people’s “time off” isn’t always restful.

If you’re feeling fresh and ready to get back into things early, I’d recommend picking TrainNow workouts to replace one or two of your easy rides on the back half of that rest week. :+1:

It would be useful to be able to distinguish between time off that’s restful vs stressful. Or maybe simply have an option to put a recovery week in the calendar and have the plan adapt around it the same way you put an event in the calendar. If I’m having holiday and not taking a bike with me then it’s generally going to be very relaxing - plenty of sleep, naps, some stretching, some walking. I don’t want that back to back with a recovery week so that I have 2 weeks without doing any intensity. I’ve tried putting in some moderate non cycling exercise instead of time off but that seems to freak the AI out and trigger yellow days presumably because I don’t normally bother recording my daily dog walks so it assumes that going on a 2 hour walk is a new stress that is going to wipe me out for a day.

No no, you have to understand that the only type of holiday that exist is going to Disneyland with your 7 kids. How dare you sugest that holiday can be restful.

My preference is to have a “rust buster” week after a vacation. So not full blown recovery but maybe more of an endurance week with a 30/30 or sweet spot workout mid-week and a long endurance ride toward the end of the week before getting full on into training again. In this case I just add in the workouts I want manually. I think everyone is unique in what works for them (kinda like when you taper). If you aren’t sure what you want to do you can always try “train now” but I’d definitely recommend a transition week, whether you are are totally off the bike and chillin’ or one of those who needs a vacation from your vacation, it helps get back into a rhythm for sure.

These are good suggestions, and this is something that the team definitely wants to improve in the future. We know this could be better, and it’s on our list to tackle.

Thanks for the feedback and continuing to push for this! :folded_hands:
