Background: I took several months off from TR, came back about a week ago.
When I returned, I was given an FTP of 116 (was previously around 213). Easy workouts ensued, but it got boring, so I upped a 9.5 threshold 1:45 hr workout today to 110% then to 121% in the last interval. Moderate RPE.
I could manually update my FTP or continue to manually increase the difficulty of the workouts, but I would be guessing for the first and the second wouldn’t be optimal.
I would increase ftp so threshold progression is about 4-5. That should get you in the intended range. In your current situation, there are no workouts in the library covering that PL
… My cursory research tells me that there is apparently no sure way, no mathematical solution, to bring a progression level from 19.5 to 4.0. It’s gonna be a lot of .
I think I’ll just keep increasing the percentage until AI FTP day. I like the weird numbers.
Manually increasing FTP did not alter individual workout progression levels nor did it change my athlete levels whatsoever, just as it is said that manually decreasing FTP will not change either level. Workouts remained at the same progression levels but anchored to the higher, manually updated FTP.
I clicked “Accept Detection” to see what would happen and it reverted to 116. So if I want AI FTP detection, I have to deal with the inaccurate value of 116 until August 11.
Since updating my FTP only anchors me rigidly to a number I’m not even sure about, I’m going to let the 116 stand and just adjust percentages during my workouts to approximate a 160 FTP, since in neither case is TR doing what it should, i.e., curating my workouts based on analyzing my current capabilities. TR is adjusting nothing at all either when I manually change my FTP or when I increase the intensity of workouts. It is, until August 11, not doing what it promises.
TR Support replied to my inquiry and changed my FTP this morning on their end. My next workout is down to 5.2, which is great, but the athlete levels have not visibly changed, which I informed them about. It’s probably just a glitch.
Hi @eddie, Tiffany K. with TR support changed my FTP on your guys’ end to 179.
AI FTP Detection day was reset to 28 days from today, too. Although the workout levels have changed (5.2 Sweet Spot tomorrow), the Athlete Levels remain elevated (19.5 Threshold, for example).
Can we get a final word on which phases of a training plan (base, build, and specialty) preclude AI FTP Detection when Progression/Athlete Levels exceed 9 or 10 after a workout? To be sure, I checked my workout history in 2025 and 2026 and found “FTP adjustment” not only in the Build phase but in the Base and Specialty phases as well. Somehow, though, it didn’t happen this time.
Okay, it sounds like we no longer pull you out of your typical 28-day FTP Detection loop duing specialty phases. I don’t think we prompt adjustments due to Workout Levels either.
Instead, it’s all based on your power curve. If you perform in a way that we think justifies an FTP change, we’ll let you know.
This is something that’s being reworked a bit while the engineers are fixing the Outside Workouts bug, so that behavior will improve once this fix is live.
Thanks, @eddie . The issue seems to me to be why the AI did not update my FTP when it obviously needed to be updated. Your backend AI increased my FTP 54.3% only after being prompted to do so. (And it seems my case is not unique.) Just curious if that’s something your team is recognizing as an anomaly and is doing something about.
