Help with ftp detection

Restarted on training program. Ai detection. Detected a really low ftp which I accepted. Did a few training sessions. Super easy. Then did a group ride sat. Was moderate. Normalized power around 200. Which was 1.2 if. Should I raise my ftp. Ai detection is telling me to rest and not train. And is predicticing a lower ftp in 3 weeks than predicted 1 week ago. I am not tired and wanna ride and train. Help pls.

For various reasons Power outdoors can be more that what you can sustain indoors. That said has TR got a lot of data to go on ? If not and you feel good in yourself, give it a nudge in the right direction (raise your FTP and train). It’ll get there eventually with more data (it’ll know your capabilities) but a nudge in the right direction won’t hurt too much IMO, if there’s limited data at present.

Hey @Woohoopga22

Welcome to the forum!

Do I have permission to look at your account and post relevant information?

Yes of course

@Woohoopga22 thank you :slight_smile:

It looks like you just started a training plan April 22nd after a year of what it seems to be a lot of unstructured training and golf.

I see your new AI FTP Detection going up from 160 >> 195, if you were to keep with the scheduled workouts from the training plan.

You said the workouts feel easy, but these are Endurance workouts you’ve completed so far from the plan. I’d be keen to see how the Interval TR Workouts feel once you complete one. This will tell us if you’re getting served the right intensity.

That said, I’d be mindful of where you are adding additional long rides or Group Rides, as in the past week these have compromised your interval training (the most important part of your training).

For example, your Group Ride made your Sunday a Red Day, so it switched it to a rest day (compromised you intervals on Sunday). And then Monday you went on a 3 hour ride, that made your Tuesday into another Red Day, compromising your intervals that day as well. We want to place your training vs. recovery needs in a way where you can complete key workouts with quality.

Moving forward, if you follow the schedule as is, you shouldn’t be running into this issue  But I would even consider swaping your Thursday Endurance workout with Sunday’s intervals so you don’t have Saturday and Sunday too packed. Right now you have Group Ride Saturday and Intervals Sunday.

Maybe this works best:

Monday- Rest
Tues- TR Intervals
Wed- TR Endurance
Thurs- TR Intervals
Fri- Rest
Sat- Group Ride
Sun- TR Endurance

How to Edit Your Training Plan Schedule

As far as the 200 normalized power from your Saturday ride, this is not a good way to estimate FTP. If anything I would test your FTP with a Ramp Test, but even then, this is a test on a singular day where fatigue, nutrition, sleep, etc… can affect the outcome. AI FTP Detection takes your entire power data/training history to detect your FTP, and the workouts you’re being served by the plan are recommended based on your power records. I would personally accept the AI FTP Detection, and as you start completing the plans workouts (especially the interval structured workouts) the system will gather more and more data on what you’re capable of and fine tune your recommended future workouts.
