In January I built my first TR training plan in some time after mostly just selecting my own rides/program.
While playing around with the new AI features, I settled on a program I liked for a 90 mile/9000’ gravel race on April 26th. It’s been going well and my FTP is increasing while losing a few lbs.
Although going well, I also have two other important races (May 31st, similar gravel race), then a 100 mile/9000’ mtb race in mid July. They are all of equal importance to me. I usually aim for top 10-20%, but won’t be on a podium.
With that in mind, my current plan ends after my April race. Should I just start a new plan after that’ll start over with the base/build/specialty, or should I stop my current plan and build a new one that goes through July? My current plan has been doing specialty for my April race, so not sure how that affects things.
My calendar is public if someone with more training knowledge has some feedback.. very happy with my 2026 progress thus far, but also don’t want to leak to early then fall apart. Not feeling that at all now, but always possible.
For me, I’ve added a bunch of events/races into the same plan, categorised them as A/B/C priority and let the AI do its thing. This covers events from April through to October.
I would add another plan at the conclusion of your current plan. I’d mark your May race as a B race, and the mid July Mountain Bike race as an A event. Not sure on best plan for you but would think either marathon mountain bike or gran fondo should get you on the right path.
That’s what I would do as well. The first 2 races are really too close together to attempt peaking for both, but there should be enough time for a mini build and taper for the 3rd race after the 1st. Ideally, time a rest/easy week the week leading up to race #2, but I would flag that as “b” and not allow it to compromise the training for race #3.
You can now only have one A race per plan, so if you’re able to pick one race that’s truly your top priority, it’s totally fine to have one plan for everything, and that’s what I’d do.
If you have more than one A race, you’ll need to have separate plans for them.
Those April and May races aren’t too far apart, so that second plan would be pretty short if they were both A races, but that’s fine if you really want to be recovered, sharpened, and tapered for each one.
Thanks. This week is a recovery week so a good time to make any changes.
If I make the April/May races as B races, and July as an A race, should it still initiate a proper taper for each of my B races?
I may pick up some other “C” races in this timeframe. Am I able to add those in afterwards and will the plan adjust. Or will I need to manually adjust the plan around those events?
Sounds like I’ll be best to squash the current plan and re-do with the July race as an A race. Being a 100 mile XCM event w/ 8000+ ft ascent; what’s the best training program?
If you add an event to your calendar, we should ask you if you want to adapt your plan accordingly.
For an event like that, XCM would be a good plan if you’re going to be competitively racing for a win, but if you’re just looking to ride hard and do your best, Gravel could be a good option as well.
Thank you. I deleted the existing program and built a new one, but wasn’t seeing the option for selecting plan type. I was positive in the past it let me choose. Looks like it auto selected to XCM since that’s what my A-race is, which is what I wanted.
Maybe a bug, but I initially had the plan start today and it through me right into an intensity week (for 3 consecutive weeks). I just had 3 weeks of intensity and this week is supposed to be an endurance week. I changed the start date to next week and will manually add workouts for this week.
We use the selected discipline of your A race to determine the type of training you’ll get in event-based plans.
Also, I don’t think we consider where you’re at in your training when building a new plan. We look to your event and work backwards. In your situation, the best thing to do would be to use the same start date as your original plan. That should have you picking up where you left off.
