Heat Training Risks, Cramping, Losing Fitness and More – Ask a Cycling Coach 217

@chad
My wife didn’t seem too bothered about the discussion being open.
Her (my amazing wife’s) problem is due to inflammation of the urethra after riding on the trainer. It’s the same thing with most of the women I mentioned and isn’t limited to the trainer.
I would be interested to know if the width of the saddle can help alleviate this, as I’ve met several women who ride on fairly normal saddles without discomfort.
What’s the difference between those women and the ones that find it extremely uncomfortable. My guess is that their hips are different widths and that concentrates pressure differently? Just a guess at best.

Thanks for the always awesome podcasts.

Happy to hear we’re not getting too personal for her to bear. This is an entirely new issue to me, but I’ll look into it so that I might have something to contribute during our guest podcast in a few weeks. Thanks for supplying more details, @Rosscopeco!

There’s some more useful information here about advice given to the British Olympic team before 2016.

We just need to find a way to get that bar with a Pwr avg 10sec and it’s solved.
Problem I have is that this workout screen (with the colored bar for the range) doesn’t appear for editing unless I start an interval. I dont know where to go in the menu to change it.

If you are getting saddle sore actually on your genitals, I’d definitely recommend seeking professional help. Sores normally occur in the “crease” of the groin and it should be possible to treat with antiseptic cleanser without getting it anywhere near your dangly/sensitive parts.

When I started racing, I didn’t take water for anything less than 1 hour. I didn’t want the aero drag of a bottle and cage. I too got that urge to drink for the first 10-15minutes, but then it subsided after that point of the race. I still get an urge for water early in a race, but just don’t give it any attention. So I continue not taking a bottle for races less than 60-70minutes. Seems to be working fine for me, although I have recently taken a sweat test and counter to my belief that I was a big sweater, I am not :man_shrugging: The speculation was I am a head sweater, which makes me think I am a big sweater.

Thanks so much for this. This is the 1 last aspect of running tubeless that is still a PITA. This could be a winner. Thanks!

A better solution than tape anything to your handlebars @Jonathan
I use this on my road bike and plugged a few punctures now, it’s never failed plugging, even side wall.

mmpgh the body looks after itself the fluid produced helps heal the wound. next time use a product called opsite. It seals the wound and improves the healing. I recovered from some serious road rash in just 5 days, my wife a nurse only changed the dressing every 2 or 3 days.

Won’t hear that situation much…lol
