Did Spanish needle today. Loved it, but the group workouts since the last update has broken my installation tbh and is adding on about 5-10min debugging per workout. The video drops at least twice per workout, and then tries to reconnect. After a few failed attempts it will not do so anymore. At that point I have to quit and rejoin, which then splits up my workouts. I check my connection using fast.de and albeit not always super fast I would expect it to work out (slow for me is about 10mb down). Every time I log in to the others in the group say they cannot see my video even though I have it active and I can see my own plus everyone else. Bit of a weird bug.
Also, the fact that when I activate my mic it mutes the audio and I have to reselect the audio output again (essentially refresh it) has to be done each time the video cuts out is something I needn’t do before so that has changed as well.
Thanks for reaching out @admigo. We’re going to have someone take a look at your ride and see what we can find. It sounds like there are several different connectivity issues going on.
@ericallenboyd while most of our workouts have 1-1 outside workout equivalents, our endurance workouts do not. This is due to the fact that most of our endurance workouts share a similar structure. We also give a slightly longer duration for endurance outside equivalents because it can take longer to get the same amount of work in when riding outside.
Hello, considering my first group workout tomorrow but am wondering given the limit of 11 how do you know if you are going to get into ‘the room’? I’m assuming hardly any get over subscribed (could be totally wrong here) but still wondering.
Sorry is this has been posted elsewhere and I have been unable to find it but is anyone from the TR team able to give an ETA for when they think group workouts will be launched to iOS apps?
Has there been a update to the VPN protocol with Group workouts? I’ve had no connection issues for the past 2 months. Today I tried to login to our group and got an error message. I had to disable my VPN to join.
Public group workout sharing popularity seems to have really fallen off a cliff…do you guys think it will pick up again when there is some integrated sharing system inside the application and iOS also supported?
It happens to be summer in may parts of the world, and a ton of people are getting outside after a winter / spring that was worsened from COVID.
I fully expect a stronger return when we hit fall around October. Couple that with the predicted increase in COVID, and we may see restrictions again. That will all push the use of inside riding and these GWs again.
So after a few group workouts, here are my thoughts.
is the picture quality supposed to be that bad? Is there a setting for that?
we need the iOS version. I dislike the desktop app and I’m about to get rid of my computer since it’s old and not planning on another laptop.
it would be really cool if the host can put a movie on for long rides and everyone can watch together.
I do find it motivating when trying to keep going and time flies by. But I was surprised how deflating it was when the other person quit the workout because they couldn’t go on anymore.
This is likely subject to the camera quality of each person in the group. I know I’ve seen a range of good to bad quality. It may also be impacted by the quality of your device (ability to handle video via system or GPU ram) and even internet quality could be a factor. I am guessing on those, so maybe a TR rep can conform or correct.
Interesting, but guessing again, I suspect there would be licensing issues with the related media.
Like any competitive environment, this is about whether you hold the power to the finish, or just past the point that your competitor pops. It’s a good challenge in a way, to try and use the interval (or workout as a whole) as the “finish line”. Best to push to the line vs popping when your opponents pop (if they go early).

I don’t know what licensing issue would be if all 3 people who were doing the workout had a Netflix account?
But even if someone didn’t, how is that different than them coming to my house and watching a movie on my tv? Or what if it’s a MNF game that is being nationally broadcast? Or YouTube where everyone has access?
I’m no expert, just posed a question. There can be YouTube videos pulled down because they have a protected video or music in some cases. I don’t know the specifics, and I suspect it’s not black and white.
Besides that, TR’s general stance on leaving out “entertainment” leads me to think they’d probably skip an option like that, but who knows?
It just can’t look at people riding a bike for 3+ hours. Maybe for a 60-90 min ride it’s ok with talking and stuff but anything longer and it’s boring to look at someone else.
Try to find my question, but seems no one has an answered it. Are there plans to have instructions on the Group Workouts?. While I like being with friends, it will be great to also have the “feedback” and good intended instructions of Coach Chad.
We requested the option, but I don’t think it has been firmly acknowledged to be something they will add. It’s come up a number of times. I’d have to search to see if there is a more specific answer.
Not sure if this is what you are asking, but Amazon Prime video has “watch party” available. I haven’t used it, but seems like you can have a group of friends watch that. Up to 100 people.
Sorry if this reply is late in the game.
