Grand Theft Auto...Zwift killer? In game cycling. Crazy

Zwift doesn’t vary rolling resistance due to surface. Grand Theft Auto does.

Yes it does, take the road bike on the gravel section, then take a mountain bike … notice the difference, for confirmation, see todays update as see the powerup the uses this exact feature

Makes me wonder if I can finally use the steering buttons on my Tacx bike…

It’s honestly been so long since I played a GTA game that I have no concept of time in relation to the series. Last one I played was GTA 4 and it seemed like there were a million spinoffs since then

Vice City for me.

When will someone do the same for Red Dead?

I can’t go near the GTA games. I literally become a whole different person :joy:

The CEO of Take Two interactive Stauss Zelnick which owns Rockstar games is an avid Triathlete. This might get him to integrate cycling and scooters into the game officially.

If one forgets about GTA specifically - what this demos shows is what happens if an off-the-shelf gaming engine is combined with a smart trainer. That is the part that should either scare or motivate Zwift.

I’d rather set Pettit to ERG and play GTA5 on my Xbox is while riding. Definitely cool though!

Can you do this on a mac?

Working on getting this setup today. I’ll post some thoughts after I mess around with it this weekend.

I haven’t gotten around testing it yet… because I was distracted by the one and only true “Zwift killer”… it’s called good weather.

Got it working without too much trouble. Just followed Lama’s instructions to the letter (THANKS!). The tourist route is a beast, climbs of over 20%. One thing to keep in mind is if you have more than one trainer, shut down the ones you’re not going to use as the mod offers no way to select (unlike zwift).

Now I need to workout how to do a TR workout in GTA like I do with Zwift. The challenge is unlike Zwift the mod has no setting for disabling control of the trainer.

I tested it out and the tourist route is no joke with some of the inclines. They are working on Neo road feel as well.

I need to pull in some of the flatter route and see how the files come out.

But yeah, being able to just read power from the trainer rather than always controlling would be a nice plus.

If the dev switches from FE-C to power only then you’ll be good to go. I believe it’s on the cards.

Super. Thanks again!

Apparently version 0.3.0.0 due out in a couple of weeks will include this (it’s in testing now)

Bit unrelated to this topic maybe but this is also a part of zwift that makes no sense to me.
My race bike rolls much lighter on gravel or hardpack dirt than my mountainbike.
Maybe less comfortable and a bit more steering/balancing skills are needed, but it rolls much lighter than my wider MTB tyres on that type of terrain.

But I guess its just a way to introduce new bikes and give them a purpose.
When I see people riding a MTB on the road in zwift I really think “why??”
I know its just a game, but still. :stuck_out_tongue:

Maybe they are mountain bikers in real life, sat on a mountain bike on the trainer and want to assosiate, maybe they want to reduce the auto mile calculator (bit like all the TR treads wanting to make their millage more accurate), mayne they are of to the gravel section, and it’s cycling, do what make you happy and don’t worry about other people

Wonder when they are going to introduce the E-Bike to zwift for the people who just want to enjoy the view. :yum:
