Garmin Training Status now populates for TrainerRoad workouts

As per the link in the original post in this thread, it’s a three step process. I’m referring to the third step when I talk about the two way sync.

Definitely and email to Garmin support. At a guess I’d say the device which ran the firstbeat algorithms has an issue - could be setup, could be firmware etc.

Each device does the calculation, and as we all have different devices and device types, this is why your affected and not us - sorry :disappointed:

I’d you have a second Garmin device (watch, edge) turn off the watch you used last time. Upload the fit file manually that you download from TR, the sync Garmin connect with the second device and see what happens.

I e never gotten any help from Garmin support in the 20 or so years I’ve used their devices. They’re just horrible at customer support.

I suspect this is much wider but people haven’t noticed and reported it yet.

I’ll try turning off my watch for the next ride though. Another great idea.

O that one yes it is completed every ride.

Still not seeing the training load impact. I rode last night which pulled through a TSS of 63 into Garmin but it doesn’t show any anaerobic or aerobic effects for the ride.

Not sure what’s going on.

Training status is definitely still a work in progress. Don’t stop yet Garmin!

I’ve noticed that my outdoor rides recorded on my 520+ don’t show up on the 7 Day Load graph in the Android app. They do show up on my Fenix 6 7 Day Load graph and the numbers add up on both. Go figure.

OK, for the ride today, I got the Garmin Connect training classification to update properly without running the 1030 side by side. (So my threshold ride properly showed up on GC a Threshold focus)

Put Fenix on charger, turned off 1030. Did the ride with only the TR app running on laptop. After the ride, I didn’t connect iPhone to Garmin Connect right away, but instead turned the 1030 on first. Ride sync’d to 1030 straight from TR. Ride is correctly classified as Threshold but still is not showing the Aerobic/Anaerobic scores, so I think I’m back to getting the same data as everyone else. Only then did I sync to the iPhone. I think that’s the key. Sync to the Garmin device first, then the phone after.

Some of the metrics, like performance condition, are based on real-time analysis of vo2max and Heart Rate Variability (HRV). Does anyone know if TR is recording HRV and sending it to Garmin Connect?

My 530 has been recording HRV since the beginning, and I’ve used some open-source analysis tools to estimate lower aerobic threshold.

It seems to me, based on Firstbeat white papers, that TR will need to record HRV data to support all the metrics.

See my post above: Garmin Training Status now populates for TrainerRoad workouts - #26 by mattave

The new feature is only including Training Load from TR workouts - it does not include the Aerobic/Anaerobic Training Effect calculations.

Arr thanks buddy

I will just do a Dory and keep riding and see how it changes my Cycling VO2 when I do an outdoor ride on the Garmin.

The 520+ does not support the advanced Training Load stats that the 530/830/1030 do. But your F6 does, so go with that.

I guess I’ll just have to throw out my 520+ and buy a brand new 530. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Maybe I could even start using the Venu S2 I bought my wife for her birthday. Then Garmin would allow me access to the advanced Muscle Groups Worked feature!!!
What a crock.

It’s poor form when companies fake obsolescence in their slightly older products.

Garmin Connect app.

VS the Fenix 6.

The grey bar on the 2nd graph is yesterday’s ride recorded on the 520+. It counted towards my 7 Day Load totals on both but is nowhere to be seen on the 1st graph.

Any idea if the 130 Plus supports the advanced training load stats needed?

I don’t think so. From the Garmin website:

Devices That Support Training Load Focus

  • Descent Mk2 series
  • Edge 530
  • Edge 830
  • Edge 1030
  • Edge 1030 Plus
  • fenix 6 series
  • Forerunner 745
  • Forerunner 945
  • MARQ collection
  • quatix 6
  • tactix Delta

So it wont display the stats and that is fine. I can use my forerunner for that. Will it track and the stats needed and pass them to garmin connect?

How did you get it to display power?

I tried extended display a week ago but just got time, speed and something else useless.

Does it work with outdoor WO’s? I managed to get a usable set of screens going but haven’t tried an outdoor WO using the extended screen yet.
To be honest, I can’t see myself bothering unless I decide to go totally rogue and take up triathlon.
I’ve got practice pissing on myself from all the kayaking I used to do. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:. That’s halfway there right?

I’m pretty sure outdoor rides recorded on the 520+ count towards Training Status just fine. They simply fail to populate the pretty little graph on the Connect app. Whatev’s.

All good. I gave up trying to do outdoor WO’s on the MTB awhile back. Too hard to follow given the local terrain.

Using the extended display option might solve another problem I have with outdoor WO’s using the 520+. It might be a good workaround for this:

My load data will update from zwift but not TrainerRoad.

I’ve disconnected and reconnected, still nothing. I run TrainerRoad over zwift just for a visual while inside training. The zwift data isn’t accurate because TrainerRoad is controlling the watts and resistance.

My outside Garmin rides sync to trainer road perfectly and my rides show up in the calendar fine (even just a ride without TrainerRoad being used).

A bit baffled as to why this load data doesn’t go the other way. Anyone else had this problem? Very frustrating. If I use my watch or headhunt while using my indoor trainer; I get double ups in Strava and Garmin connect which I have to delete. Maybe that’s the only way? But shouldn’t be acccordjng tk this release

It’s a possibility.

What’s not to like. (Once you get over the lonely suffering of the event itself).

I just finished my first Gran Fondo and I’m not sure if road group riding is for me. I much prefer the XCM style of racing where things are spaced out more and you get to ride your own race.
Next year I’ve promised a mate I’ll train up to join him for The Doctor in Western Australia. After that I might go trisexual. I’ve heard all the cool kids are having a crack these days.

To keep the post related to the OP.
My ride that was recorded on the 520+ didn’t add anything other than a slight increase to my training status.

Shame on you Garmin. I believe that it’s well within your power to update the firmware on your older units.
