Garmin Edge 1040 Released

I wouldn’t say it necessarily fails, it’s just not as good as BBB for planning purposes. I end up using both, BBB to play with various numbers and get an idea of effort and finishing times, and power guide for the actual race.

Does anyone know if there is a app in IQ that would replicate the classic paper taped to the stem?

I’d like to note down opening hours and distance from start for some resupply points but my stem is covered by bag straps. I could stick to the top tube but the head unit seems perfect if there’s an app.

Can you just add the markers on the route file?

I might try but they’re not really on the route unless I’m hungry or going past when open.

Is this what you’re looking for?

I found a notes app but the colours in that look even better for a dyslexic to read (especially when tired).

Big thanks!

I used this for unbound, but the color choices for lines leaves a lot to be desired.

I’ve added both the one I found a the sticker. Popping out for my last z2 before the taper so will test both out.

Been trying to figure this out.

Which setting controls whether an an eat alert (have mine set at 15 mins) gives an audible sound? Can’t figure it out, and keep missing them without a beep of some sort to look down…

I saw wind direction/speed in a data screen on IG but didn’t take note right and now I forgot who posted or where to find it, may have been @GPLama. How do I get this field on my 1040?

That would be the WindField Connect IQ field.

Anyone else bricked their Garmin this weekend with the 18.nn software update? Stupidly I pressed install update before a ride on saturday and my 1040s fell into a bootloop and wouldn‘t start up fully or shut down completely.

Had to do a master reset by pressing the lap and start/stop button simultaneously and then turning it on. That seemed to wipe the hole unit and quirky as garmins software is, wouldn’t sync my previous activity pages from garmin connect although the backup was right there in the app :man_shrugging:

Oddly enough I met someone on the ride on saturday with my bricked 1040 that appeared to have had the exact same issue although his unit somehow made the jump out of the bootloop and he was able to record the ride on his unit.

Learned three things this weekend

  • don’t update sw before a ride (especially garmin software)
  • bring a backup (luckily was wearing my Fenix)
  • sync ant+ sensors across devices so that ride data actually gets recorded

Curious to hear if someone else had issue with the recent update to 18.nn or if that was just a really weird coincidence yesterday.

@jn92 I’m on the beta train, though I only use the Garmin when a new release occurs to see what Garmin is doing and if it frustrates me less. (Day to day is a Wahoo ROAM2, the Garmin inevitably frustrates me). Haven’t experienced that at all through any updates, including to 18 series or 18.23

I upgraded this week without any issues.

18.23 beta has been just fine

The Windfield Connect IQ field is enough to keep me on a Garmin. Wahoo people don’t know what they’re missing

I know what I’m missing on Garmin: Auto-pause for workouts.

I’ve been using a tempered glass screen protector on my 1040, and with any moisture on the screen it’s selecting things and changing screens. Are you forced to lock the screen in with spray or precipitation, or is this a screen cover issue?

screen issue problem. My 1040 does not do that without a screen protector

Sounds like a screen protector issue. I lock my screen when it rains not due to it selecting stuff but so I can wipe away raindrops to see the screen better. Still can swipe between data screens though
