Feature Request - Recommended Alternates

For days in which I feel like doing a shorter or longer workout than prescribed, I would really like to see TR provide “Recommended Alternates”. Yes, I realize I can just pick an an alternate with a similar PL, but since Adaptive Training seems to be considering more when prescribing workouts than just PL of your last completed workout in the power zone, I think this would be helpful.

For example, if you want to increase your workout duration from 90min to 120min then TR’s Adaptive Training recommends this alternate within the context of your training plan. Perhaps the Recommended Alternate could be just be tagged or highlighted among the list of alternates.

I hope I’m making sense! Would anyone else find this useful?

Aren’t there already some potential alternatives listed if you use the ‘Edit Workout’ option, and change the time to how long you’d like to ride? I think you can also change the intensity, too (achievable, productive, stretch, etc).

Yup! But I’m hoping for TR to recommend a specific alternate when you change workout duration based on Adaptive Training. Again, I realize I can just select an alternate with a similiar PL, but PL may not provide the full story.

Swapping a pl 3.2 for 60 minutes to a 3.2 for 120 minutes isn’t close enough?

Totally agree this would be a game changer Having AT aware recommended alternates especially for time-crunched or extra-motivated days would save so much guesswork

Why not just use “train now?” Choose your desired time and pick the same type of workout (threshold, Sweet Spot, VO2, etc.) that you have on your schedule?

I made a similar request last year fwiw.

Good suggestion. But the Train Now recommendation doesn’t always match the type of workout for the day. For example, Train Now may recommend a VO2max workout on a Threshold day in your program.

True. But i usually get three choices. One is recommended but then two more alternatives. In this case you’d likely see a threshold or sweet spot and an endurance option.

I actually like this idea a lot, and I think it could be really useful.

Thanks for the suggestions @John_Barclay, and @Flashpoint51, I’ve just shared this with the team. :+1:
