Dictating available time by day

Hi all, I’m one of those people that doesn’t have a really strict schedule but I do have time to commit to training each week, something I’m sure many of us can relate to. I remember giving TR an idea of what my available time was each day to build a plan (Mon: off, Tue: 1.5hrs, W: 2hrs etc). But I found TR to stick to this a bit too literally and this has become an issue when trying to build a plan.

For instance, every other Friday I have the afternoon off, I’d like to make that a productive ride and could go out for 3 hours, whereas the other Friday I don’t have off I’d probably only manage 45mins.

I know I can tell it that I’m doing a solo ride that day or whatever. But I would love the functionality to exist on the calendar view to select on a drop down box I have “x” amount of time available today and then let TR choose what I should do across that week/coming month rather than me telling it what type of ride I’ll do based off the hours I have.

Am I talking nonsense here or is this an issue people also have? / do people find the work arounds of this issue easy enough to manage?

Ta,

Tim

Hey Tim,

Welcome to the forum!

This is a great place to share such thoughts. They’re not nonsense!

I’ll pass this suggestion along to the rest of the team.

What I’d probably recommend in your situation is relying on Workout Alternates to find a suitable replacement for the scheduled workout when you don’t have time to knock out the one that’s prescribed.

 You can filter alternates by duration so this could work well for you for the time being. Just make sure not to select alternates too far into the future as once you hand-pick a workout, Adaptive Training will trust that you made that decision for a reason and skip adapting that workout in the future, even if your upcoming performances suggest that it’s a good idea.

In my opinion, it’s best to save using alternates for the day of the workout.

Let me know if this helps and if you have other questions! :handshake:

Thanks for the response. I do see that as a work around and that’s what I’ve done. But as my weeks can be pretty different week on week I’d want to tell TR this well in advance because it can then schedule in the right workouts/recovery over a longer period. e.g.

week 1: M: off T: 2hrs W: 2hrs T: 1hr F: 1hr S: 2hrs S: 2hrs
week 2: M: off T: 1hr W: 2hrs T: off F: 4hrs S: 30mins S: 4hrs
week 3: M: off T: 2hrs W: off T: 1hr F: 1hr S: 3hrs S: 3hrs

I can predict the next 2 weeks very accurately and the next 1-3 months pretty well. So I’d like to tell TR a bit more in advance what I have the availability to do and see what it maps out. I have 2 flexible jobs, a trustee position and a social life so balancing all of these things can throw out my plan somewhat but I should always be able to find 8+ hours a week to train. Is this a feature that could potentially be developed?

I’ll certainly pass this info along to the rest of the team. :mega:

In the meantime though, I’d recommend using Workout Alternates the day of your scheduled workout to find a suitable replacement if the duration of what’s planned for the day isn’t to your liking. Doing this too far ahead of time will result in a non-adaptive and sub-par experience.

You can also move workouts around the week if you have some days that need to flip-flop or skip workouts altogether (Wednesday in week 3 for example) if that helps.

I’d say this is the best solution to your changing schedule for now, but again, I’ll let the team know that this is something that some of our athletes want! :handshake:
