Next week the Ai suggests that I increase my Thursday SS workout from 1:30 to 1:45 and do Eclipse +1 at 8.0 WL. Given that I for most of my base phase self selected 2 hour SS workouts instead of the 1:30 prescribed to increase weekly volume I thought I might aswell go check alternates for a 2 hour workout next week aswell. The alternates I’m presented confuse me a bit.
For longer alternates I’m given five sugestions, three of them are not reccomended. Only one is a 2:00 workout, the rest are longer, and that one is one of the not reccomended. That workout is Wright Peak, SS 9.4. Looking at TRs collection of workouts there are 39 other 2:00 workouts from the first 8.0 workout until you reach Wright Peak. Why are none of them listed as a suitable alternate?
I get that some of them are excluded since they are hard start intervals, but even if you only count workouts without a single second above FTP there are still 16 left.
There is currently a bug that shows some of those workouts as “Not Recommended.”
In terms of why some other workouts aren’t included, I don’t know exactly how we classify workouts as suitable alternates, but I do know that we don’t include them all, and the workouts have to meet the specific criteria of the plan.
There are six sub-categories of sweet spot workouts, for example, and we’re only looking at the ones that fit in with your plan.
There are multiple alternates that most definitely are in the same sub-category which aren’t shown as an alternate.
Looking at the longer alternates again I see that there are only one listed for each duration 2:00, 2:15, 2:30 etc. Might I suggest that the new limit on how many alternates that are presented makes it unnecessarily difficult to find the best alternate.
For my specific example, instead of seeing a 3:00 workout when I want a bit longer than 1:45, why not show workouts like Eclipse +3 (4x20 instead of 3x25) or Atitlan (3x31)? And if Wright Peak (3x30 at 90, 92 and 90%) is a reccomended alternate why not Three Fools -1 (3x30 all at 90%)?
Again, I don’t actually know how we classify things or how we select which workouts to show, so I’ll forward this to the team as I agree, and I think it’s good feedback.
