I have an old (7 years?) Elite Direto that I want to control using my Wahoo Element Bolt. The Bolt does a beautiful job of controlling the trainer, however, there is one issue. For some reason, the speed reported to the Bolt is around 160 MPH when it should be maybe 16 MPH. This is annoying when I upload to Strava since my distances are all crazy.
I checked the speed in the Elite app and it is accurate there. I also tried changing the wheel circumference to something really small and did see a change in the speed, but at the smallest wheel circumference I’m still travelling at 70 MPH.
Both trainer and computer have the most up-to-date firmware. Anything else I can try? I would also consider it a solution if the Bolt just recorded time/power and left speed/distance at 0.
When you changed the wheel circumference, what value did you use? It should be set to 12.1 to make your speed more or less what you’d get with 700c wheels.
I think the old ones was something weird. I believe you’re supposed to divide the actual circumference by that 12.1 number (I believe this number changes based on what device is recording and/or which specific trainer).
So maybe in your case try something like 17.1 (2070/12.1).
Here I found the page. If you use ANT+ FE-C you shouldn’t have to do anything. But if using BT thru a 3rd party app it’s acting as a speed/cadence sensor so you do have to divide by 12.1.
That works, thanks!
Didn’t realize I could change the wheel circumference in the Wahoo app. I was changing it in the elite app, but that wouldn’t go low enough to get realistic speed.
