So you value the training plans enough to effectively copy them, but not enough to pay for the service?
I keep subscribing hoping they have a group workout equivalent of Beers with Chad.
I’m grandfathered in at $99/year
Have never done a plan
Use the app and workout creator in winter when I can’t ride outside
The analytics is severely lacking compared to TP, WK05 and intervals.icu
Have kept the subscription as I like the TR team
Unless there’s a major upgrade on the analytics side of things, I won’t be renewing and I definitely won’t be coming back at a higher price.
I’m not sure I get the criticism of the App. For me, this is one of the big selling points - low set up costs. In pre-Covid times, I was doing most of workouts on hybrid rollers on my (in the scheme of phones) basic phone beside the car before work. No issues, no crashing. I just want tech that “just works”.
I’m grandfathered in at $99.
For the first few years I used it sporadically, however the last 2-3 years have used it extensively including going thorugh the base-build - speciality cycles.
Honestly of all the stuff I purchase for cycling (and sports) this is by far the best value (and it still would be at $189), yes I could “copy workouts” I guess and cancell but I haven’t got the time and couldn’t be bothered for the cost of TR.
I must admit I go against this trend (for now). I joined TR in June and have had no gains at all despite all the structure and using HV plans.
It’s made me realise 8 years of no structure have actually got me to a v decent place and thus I am going to struggle to see big gains even with being new to structure.
However I still really enjoy TR and thus have subscribed for the year and am looking forward to it.
I agree, the app is very stable. I referenced that above. But it is very basic. I don’t expect it to have lots of bells and whistles but the fact you can’t skip or repeat intervals, you don’t have a view of what’s coming up next, you can’t switch from erg to slope. None of these things are revolutionary, just basic features available in most apps. My point is value. TR whilst very good and does work, doesn’t offer anything that you can’t get a better version of elsewhere.
Completely agree with this.
-
Legal or not, that is far from ethical and is effectively stealing TR work and intellectual property, IMO.
-
Even if you “tweek” them, it doesn’t make them yours. Stealing a car and painting it with rattle cans is still stealing.
I agree 100%, but I have a family to feed so need to prioritize where my money gets spent. Some things need to make way for others and paying for Strava and Zwift is enough, whatever I can use outside of that to improve/enhance what I am already paying for I will.
Honestly TR will survive without me. I will do my best not to re visit this thread as no good will come from it.
Take care of yourself, and the ones you love.
It’s one thing to steal to feed your family.
It’s a whole different ball game to steal because you can’t afford a third cycling-related subscription.
- This is not a perfect solution, but there is a function that allows moving forward or backward in workouts.

-
Repeating an interval or any segment will wipe out the completed part that is overwritten. So it’s not great if you are looking to “add” intervals and still get full analysis and TSS info.
-
But it is good if you have an interruption or mechanical and want to step back to ‘redo’ part of a workout.
-
The jump forward works fine and skips whatever you bypass.

There are a couple of ways to swap modes within a workout.

-
On Win/Mac, you can swap easily between trainer modes with on-screen controls (see above) or the ‘T’ key on the keyboard.

-
On mobile, it is more of a pain, but you access the Devices, Trainer and swap modes, then back out to the workout. There is an open Feature Request to improve this access, and we are hoping to see it with the pending Mobile app update.
-
I’m hoping that the mode selection will be kept until changed. I’m having to select resistance mode every time I start up the app.
I stand by my statement having trialed TR, Zwift, RGT, and Rouvy. In my opinion TR’s Erg mode works very well with PowerMatch and my Kickr 2017 direct-drive and Stages PM. It is one of the reason I use TR and subscribe. Is any app perfect? No, but TR app rises above the rest IMHO.

A published roadmap would be useful, i.e., showing what they are developing, rather than teases.
@Nate_Pearson @chad Any possibility of this?

I have a family to feed so need to prioritize where my money gets spent.
Some things need to make way for others and paying for Strava…
I am sure you have figured out by now you won’t get much sympathy here for stealing TrainerRoad plans while simultaneously paying for Strava.

subscribe to Strava which takes care of logging all my rides and providing other useful information.
so just use Strava training plans. After the TR free trial if you don’t pay don’t use TR workouts or plans. Pretty simple. For an analogy if your income depending on say selling crime novels (books), and then I came along, took your storylines, modified the details, and was better at marketing and your book sales declined what would you think?
Pay to use is a pretty simple idea, you need to respect other people’s right to make money.

@Nate_Pearson @chad Any possibility of this?
There are public things and secret things.
Public things
- New iOS/Android mobile app coming out with full calendar, plan builder and new power match (which is rad). This is in beta right now.
- After that we’ll get Group Workouts on mobile and have a lot of improvements coming to it.
- Then there’s run and swim support.
Secret things
- Thing #1, been working on it for three years. Coming soon
. Biggest thing we’ve ever done.
Nate,
Does “coming soon” mean it’ll be of benefit to me and my “A” race in 38 weeks
Having some inside knowledge, I can attest it’s awesome!
