Deals / Sales / Discounts for Cycling "Stuff" (2023)

Silca is running their BF sale. From what I see, discounts are pretty much the same as those during other sales in the year, but there are some good deals.

It just brings Silca’s prices down to what everyone else in the industry is charging normally . Edited to be more specific since it applies to Trek too.

I got this too and was surprised to learn of their Lifetime option. Normally $900 but $450 with the discount which is surprisingly decent when viewed against their annual rates.

Who’s the ideal customer for that $450 lifetime plan? Or to put it a different way, what’s the benefit of paying them instead of, or in addition to, the Garmin stats plus Training Peaks calendar plus TR plus Intervals.icu?

product page: Optimize Training Plans and Coaching Subscription – FasCat Coaching

email blurb on Lifetime:

I like some of the app screenshots like this one:

and the basic-but-colorful analytics I see posted on Frank’s Strava feed. I really like what I’m seeing and the progress the FasCat team has made with Optimize over the past year.

FWIW I picked up another TrainingPeaks 1-year sub at 25% discount, and then immediately canceled the renewal. It asked why I was canceling the renewal, and I said I’ve been answering your surveys for years and to repeat the UI needed an overhaul 5 years ago (told them to copy/improve on Intervals.icu), you don’t support Garmin secondary target, and I’m going to spend the next year moving key workouts from TP to Intervals and not renew if things don’t change. Well I was wrong about the Garmin support, it was added a couple weeks ago and I noticed it last night. Intervals is still a bit of a pain on mobile, and it is easier to timeline zoom on TP mobile, and Intervals support for Garmin secondary target is not working.

Someone who believes this app will last them a lifetime (or at least until they feel they got $450 out of it) and they won’t release something new or do like TR was talking about doing by making new functionality a separate cost. Or that the end user won’t want to buy “the next cool app/plan/tool” that comes out.

I’ve been tinkering with my Optimize membership stuff and am in the middle of the free month of coaching you get with the package (Allie is the coach, and has been excellent). You could basically think of it as a free annual 30 minute coaching consultation built in along with the training plan subscription.

The app itself has grown a ton since the beginning and I’m going to re-up at the 50% off price. For the lifetime membership - I agree, but would add that it also functions as a sort of mini-Kickstarter to help Frank raise capital quickly for more development, with the benefit that is already a working product. Direct integration with Zwift is apparently coming soon, too.

I’m considering the lifetime plan. At $450, That’s like a year and of half of their normal pricing, and less than 3 years compared to TR. So if I use it for a few years, it costs the less ($12.50/mo for 3 years). The question is whether I think I’ll be using it three years from now. I’m actually interested in their weightlifting aspect of training. Does it factor in the weights into the weekly training stress? Would be nice to have a training plan that considers both on and off bike training stress.

I’m fairly sure their latest podcast mentioned weightlifting stress. Not being an optimize subscriber I didn’t really care so I didn’t listen carefully. If I didn’t have several of their plans in Training Peaks I’d certainly be interested in their lifetime plan. Pretty soon it is going to have the functionality to replace TP, and include all the plans and coaching. As it is, I suspect I’ll pass and stick with what I’ve got.

Yes a recent update to Optimize allows you to factor in stress of weightlifting into your load.

Neopro has a pretty decent blackfriday going on. I enjoy their jerseys quite a bit and will be trying out their bibs this year.

Cambria Bikes has full builds of the Santa Cruz Blur in the 3200-3500 range. The Carbon CC frame. Group not great but at that price you can upgrade to the new SRAM Transmission XX SL and have a top spec bike for half the price.

Their bibs are pretty good. The only issue I have with them is that the leg length on them is about an inch or so longer than other bibs which annoys me. But if you’re a taller person or someone with longer thighs, it will be great for you.

This Blur CC complete bike (with not great group or wheels, but still a SID fork) for less than the cost of the same frame from Santa Cruz’s site. Best Black Friday deal I’ve seen in a while.

Good deal, hurts though as I’m trying to sell a used one for more currently

a friend that lives in Bay Area drove down to Cambria Bike Shop / San Luis Obispo and picked up a Blur XC earlier this year. They have great sales!
